JAMISON Staff Writer Sororities and fraternities from South Carolina, Georgia and Florida colleges will be performing after the South Carolina State/ Florida A & M game Saturday in the South Carolina State College Palmetto Classic Step Show Extravaganza at Carolina Coliseum. Included in the extravaganza are stepteams from USC, South Carolina State College, the University of Georgia at Athens, Savannah State and Florida A & M. The teams consist of 6 to 12 members which will have 15 minutes to give their best performance. They will be judged on a scale of 1 to 5, with five being the best. Several award winning fraternities and sororities are participating in the event. USC's Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the 1990 champion, is best known for performing blindfolded. "Be prepared because we've been out for a while, but we are back and we are better than ever," USC Alpha Phi Alpha President James Webber said to the other participating fraternities and sororities. Alpha Phi Alpha of South Carolina State is also a favorite to win the first prize and take it back to Orangeburg. They have won numerous awards, including the national award, and have been known to use special effects during their step time. The Delta Sigma Thetas from the University of Georgia are picked as favorites in the sorority field. They have won numerous awards for their stepping because of their originality and the usage of the latest dance steps, such as the Roger Rabbit. USC's Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will also be participating in the extravaganza. Ishtar Steward, AKA president, wished her opponents the best of luck. To top off this exciting night, up and coming R & B artist Damian Dame will perform. His hits include "F.xr.liisivitv " "Whack It on Me," "Gotta Learn My Rhythm" and "Don't Remind Me" off his .self-titled debut album.
