The author who hy) lived for some years in the Fij Islands, delving assiduously into the ethnic and cultural lore of a wild and cannibalistic race whose chief culinary delicacy was "long pig," i.e., dressed and trussed humans roasted slowly over coals. In an effort to mitigate the revolting nature of his basic theme, Foreman concocts a plot around the unknown fate of a small trading vessel named Argo, which did actually vanish-per haps on the teeth of a coral reef -en route to New South Wales in about the year 1800. Fate Unknown Nothing is known of the actual fate of the Argo and her cre,\ a fact which hampers' Foreman substantially in inventing a genu inely moving yarn. Setting out to write fiction, he hamstrings himself by tying his plot to a real-life sea mystery. (Bryan Colier, News a Cour ier.) CLEANING VERY BEST AT .DAY PARTIES...
