"And a Right Good Crew" is
one of those charming books
which enable a stay-at-home to
range the wide wide world with
out any of the vicissitudes im

The author, Emily Kimbrough's
literary forte is the personal
experience story, and she pleased
thousands with her gift for hav
ing a wonderful time.
Summer Theme
Her current adventure deals
with summer trips on the quaintly
narrow but remarkably well
managed canal b o a t s which
thread the countryside of Eng
land and Wales. Her "right good
crew" consisted of Dorothy Stick
ney and Howard Lindsay, Authur
Kober and Sophy Jacobs, a con
stellation of theatrical and liter
ary - personalities which would
produce a high old time nearly
anywhere.
Their summer voyagings took
them into numerous whimsical
and hoydenish experiences, and
Miss Kimbrough possesses the
blessed talent for taking all of

First Novel Reviewed
Russell Foreman recently came
out with the story of "Long P '
a first novel. The author who hy)
lived for some years in the Fij
Islands, delving assiduously into
the ethnic and cultural lore of
a wild and cannibalistic race
whose chief culinary delicacy was
"long pig," i.e., dressed and
trussed humans roasted slowly
over coals.
In an effort to mitigate the
revolting nature of his basic
theme, Foreman concocts a plot
around the unknown fate of a
small trading vessel named Argo,
which did actually vanish-per
haps on the teeth of a coral reef
-en route to New South Wales
in about the year 1800.
Fate Unknown
Nothing is known of the actual
fate of the Argo and her cre,\
a fact which hampers' Foreman
substantially in inventing a genu
inely moving yarn. Setting out
to write fiction, he hamstrings
himself by tying his plot to a
real-life sea mystery.
