So, for the edification of the general public here's the scoop on this relatively new organization. Intention The jazz club's avowed inten tion is to promote interest in jazz and modern music-plus a little dixieland for kicks-in the Co lumbia area. Membership is open to all; charges are one dollar initially, and two dollars a month regular dues. They meet the first Sunday in every month, and there are free refreshments served at the meetings. Open Sessions The jam sessions are open to all who care to sit in, sometimes guest "pros" sit in and contribute their bit. At the last meeting there were a few from the Mela chrino orchestra, adding a bit of English cheer to an otherwise all-American show, and a good show it is. I've listened to some of the tapes of the meetings, and they sound pretty good. Jazz Concerts The jazz club is also interested in bringing some top artists in for some concerts, the details haven't been fully worked out, but this sounds like a real winner. Freburg Banned Christmas is traditionally mus ical, but recently Stan Freburg has come out with a sharip stab at some other aspects of the Christ mas season that are neither mus ical nor tradifonal, but capital ize on both. The record is called "Green Christmas," and chances are yolb won't hear on the air, you'll have to buy the record. One station in town has already banned it from the air, and there is but one reason: it is too true to be funny. Satirist Freburg has built a reputation as a comedian, but this record bears him out as a satirist of the first rank. For those of you that haven't heard it, the record de picts the annual prostitution of a holy season by the advertisers. The choral sequences are master ful in their backing of the acrid dialogue, and the whole record leaves you with a sense of near outrage. The shoe fits, and some advertisers are already screaming as the pinch starts hurting. But, as I say, chances are you won't hear it over the air; you can, however, tune in some real fine Christmas carols as sung by Pri vate first class Elvis. Great stuff. New York, Kansas City and San Francisco department stores (all fashionable) displayed a limited supply of the original, moth eaten versions of this '20's coat last year at $25 to $30. Some even had hipflasks and speakeasy cards still in the pockets. Male and female college students alike cleared the racks immediately. Coast Wide A great many of these vintage racoons (those that survived the Davy Crockett hat salvage) will be seen at college sporting events and the like not only in the East hut every-where as shown by the big reception. The song "Button Up Your Overcoat" was most probably written from the viewpoint of a college man of the '20's who evi dently knew his kind well and the coat to be "buttoned up" was very likely racobn. 20's Remembered The reminiscences of that by gone roaring era through these coats seems to bring nostalgic recollections to those who were around when the illegitimate "booze" was flowing freely. This year for those who would rather have an unused garment and want to be humane to Mr. 'Coon, a deep pile manufacturing firm has a synthesized racoon fur that looks authentic even at close range. A real racoon coat is $400 new. Fur is a big item in men's wear now. All sorts of fur are used as trim and lining for coats, from fox to skunk! Yes, even the skin of this black and white streaked odoriferous animal is being used on collars. Whether your choice is vintage or modern, either will leave you gasping "Fur gosh sakes!" We are sure you agree that this new old fashion is "a cat's pajamas" and "all that razz-ma tazz."
