Some of the people have i the idea that the sale will be made on the first Monday, and the Herald desires to correct this mistake. J n Prince who holds a good position in Columbia with the Southern Cotton Oil Co has been interested in t he enterprise for some time, being able to take a large amount of stock therein. He was in Conwry thelirstof this week oonfering with leading business men and providing for a meeting at which they will listen to an address by agentlemui from (Jeorgia who knows all about the business, Conway is said to bo the best, plaee ia this section of the State for tho location of a mill, and while Mullins aud Loris are both looking to got the mill, Conway is most favored and if men who have the capital show the right kind of interest the enterprise will bo located at Conway. Standard Warehouse is managed by M C Dullie ?& Harrington and tHe, Ijoris Warehouse by Sanders & Causey. The wonderful,good managment of those men is vesponsiule to a large degree for the great quantities of tobacco sold here to day and the prices realized: Those who paid attention.to tho sales to-day state that not a single word of dissatisfaction was heard among the farmers Besides large crowds of norry people who were present, the sales were attended by speculators, business men and buyers from other markets. The town authorities have lorn quite active recently in the prosecuting of vagrants in the town, Cast week Charley Bruton was before the Mayor under a charge of vagrancy. This was his second trial, the jury failing to agree in the first. In the second trial he was found guilty by the jury and ' sentenced to pay a line of $25.00 or lifteen days on the pablic works with the option to get a job within four days. On Last Monday a similar charge 'came for trial against H N Sessions 1 The defendant demanded a jury and Messrs B T By man, M VV Collins, j A Lewis, J L Dozier, FS Powell 1 and y C Todd wero impaneled to try 1 the case. At the trial the to wn Intruduced testimony showing that I his tax returns was $50 00 though 1 it was not a year for returning real estate, other witnesses testified < that thov had seen him about town, < but they could not say whether he < had any means of living or not. but ' that he did net have any regular ' position- Tho defendant introduced j testimony wuieh showed that he i went out of the Judge of probate's I office abon' three years ago, and that afte1, that time ho obtained a < position i i Florida and tilled the < po.-ition for 8 or 51 months, return- < iug here with his wife to attend her I father the late liev W S McCaskili in ( his last illness. For that reason he 1 returned to South Carolina and reasonably expected to obtain the 1 position of jailor under Sheriff Ses- * sions whenever he should be re- < elected. Tlic (ireaiest Sale Cvi r llucl Here Caitul of 1* on Tucsdiiy. uast Tuesday was the opening sale at the Horry Tobacco Warehouse For several weeks Manager J U Howies and his employees were kept busy preparing the large warehouse for this sale. The sale began last Tuosdav at one o'clock. Hy 11 o'clock in the forenoon the streets near this warehouse were -crowded | with vehicles belonging to the farmers who hud tobacco to soli on the lloors. When tho sale was ready to begin the entire Hour was full of large piles of the golden weed from sido to side, making the largest sale ever witnessed in Conway. The salo lasted until between two and thrco o'clock and the farmers wore satislied. There no very line tobacco sold at this sale, the tobacco sold consisting of what is called the lirst cropping from the stalk, the leaves first picked being called by the tobacco men "sand lugs."
