K I Observance of the Sabbath, c 11 Dear Mr Editor: As I have not J seen anything from Gallivants Fetry ft recently I will write a few words. y 1 don't want to get into a contra- t versy with any one. Everyone is fj free to entertain his own opinion r and exercise his own judgment Remember tho Sabbath day to keep it holy?Exodus xx, 8. This is the command of the Great God. It is one of the ten words spoken p with divine majesty on Mt Sinai and also written by the finger of I God on tables of stones. There is 110 commandment of the ten of greater importance, yet scarcely I any one is so much disregarded. Well, therefore may it begin with t the word Remember, seeing that t thoughtless mortals are so prone to S forgot it. We are by no means to 1 suppose that this law was given to h the Jews only. It is not of a cere- 1 monial nature but moral as all the o ten are. Tho Sabbath was not first - VJ instituted when the law was given d to Moses, it was only ro ewed. We a read of the Sabbath in the 2nd chap- d ter of Genesis. It began as soon t as the world began for on the t seventh day God ended his work t which he had mado and God blessed t the seventh day and sanctified it. a There can be no doubt that Adam, g, Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and 0 all the good men of old observod the p Sabbath, but when the descendants (j of Abraham became slaves in Egypt p it is probable that they could not 1 obscrvo it as they ought, but now being delivered from bondage the law was revived and they are commanded to remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. This law then T is of perpetual obligation. If God saw it needful for Adam to keep, E even in Paradise and before he sinned, how much more necessary for tl us to keep it. fie had no hard work U to do to need rest. But the moral- t< lty of the Sabbath does not consist a in it being the seventh day but the a seventh part of our time---Acts xx, a 7; Rev i, 10 This was kept because n it was tie day of his resurrection and the work of creation was finish- tl ed and remade. God had finished Ins work?Hebrews iv, Paul says ei they entered not on account of un- d belief. <Jud bkssed this day?Isa lviii, 13. Our Saviour healed the sick on the Sabbath, ood's blessing that day is another reason why we should keep it hjly?Ecolefiates i, 12. Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth while the evil days come not nor the years draw ^ nigh when thou shall say I ha/e no jj pleasure in them. The facts of this matter were published iu the State papers at the time, and are brielly is follows: Pelzer Lee was in busi ess at Scranton and his store was mysteriously buruedone night about last December, he having paid hi i insurance premium the day before fhere was roquestion at the time, ind the insurance money was paid to him. Later on iu February, Winslow Wright was burned out also very mysteriously and on the strength of strong circumstantial ?vidence Mr Wright had Pelzer Lec tnd several others arrested charged with the crime. As soon as the\ were arrested for the Wright burnug, the authorities began looking nto the burning of their own store a ew days before, and they are now *estiug under this charge also. These parties wore not tried at Kingstree at the special term of the jourt, and the parties are out on $!(> JUU.UO bond. Winslow Wright bv -he fire is said to have lost $00,000 )0. Sessions returns' last Saturday from Florida, where lie weut with requisition papers to arrest Henry L, Smith. Smith ha been absent from Horry county fo/ ttie past two years, his reasons foi leaving not being very well understood. He left a family consisting of a wife and several children at his farm near Conway. Some months ago W. B. Cooper, of Wilm ngton, . had a warrant issued for Smith's arrest. charging his with disposing of certain personal property over which he held a bill of sale or chattie mortgage Smith could not bo found in the count, v. nnrl finivllv s? ? rl , " requisition v as obtained by Solicitor VV. H. Wei and with these papers the sheri* .eturned with the prison- 1 er last S turday. It is a. kted that the facts out of which the process came about re suited from a busiuoss transaction between the parties whereby Smith ' obtained advances from Mr Cooper givinghim security on certain property which he later disposed of, and failed to pay the debt. The warrant was issued several months ago by Magistrate Newton Sweet. Smith was lodged in j.iil last Saturday upon the anival of the sheriff 1 and on Sunday morning his wife and children came in from the 1 country and spent Sunday and Sun- : day night with him. On Monday morning arrangements were made so that he made bond and went to his home with his family. Smith , holds a lucrative position with Pow- ' ell & Co,, large naval stores manufacturers in Florida. His employers 1 ituidks a great deal of him from the ; fact that he offered to put up any amount of money an security for Smith's appearance at the trial, ??^ Off For Eu.ampmciit.
