Willeox, Esq., to taik over the tobacco situation- In the course of an informal dis cussion, the fact was brought out that Florence is surely advancing as a tobacco market- For the past week the prices have been such as to please the most violent of kickers, and many expressions of satisfaction have come from growers and sellers of the weed. Five or six of our merchants have procured licenses and are buying regularly at each day’s sales. This addition to the num ber of buyers has, of course, a wholesome effect upou prices, sending them upward, and in pro portion as prices go up the market secures more patronage and be comes more firmly established. Watch Florence. The business men have taken held of the matter in the right way. At last night’s meeting a tobac co board of trade was organized with the following officers: Presi dent, J.J. Hill; vice-president, J. F- Stackley; secretary and treas ur, L. U. Meares. Messrs. Meares, Commander, H. A. Brunson, Cole and Morton were appointed as a committee to prepare suitable by laws, their report to be submitted at a meeting next Friday night. Again, watch the board _of trade. THE PRIMARY TICKETS. Stale chairman Tompkins has ordered a supply of 94,000 tickets for the coming primary election, in accordance with the agreement made by the candidates with him a few days ago. These tickets will contain the names of all the senatorial candidates. It is ex pected that the tickets will be ready for delivery to Col. Tomp kins by to-day, and he will at once begin the distribution of them all over the State through the regu lar channels of the organized Democracy- He will ask the county chairmen to see that none of the tickets are destroyed. * According to the primary rules, separate boxes will have to be provided in the counties of the Sixth congressional district, in which the ballots for the caudi dates for congress must be cast. 1 There will also be a separata box for Judge of Probate.] Card of Thanks. UU-liuiond, the Slayer of Sam Riali- lu-dsou. Will be Brought to Florence. Yesterday Sheriff McLendon re ceived a telegram announcing that Geo. Richmond, the slayer of Sam Richardson, had been caught at Newbern, N. C. The sheriff at ouce began the necessary steps for getting requisition papers. Early this morning, however, another telegram came from Mayor Ellis, of Newbern, stating that Richmond had confessed and that he would go to South Caro- iua without requisition papers, and the sheriff at once took the ,ram for Newbern. He will bring tichmond to Florence where at the next term of court he will be jrought to trial. NURSERIES ON TRAINS. Now comos the travelling nur sery to take its place alongside the jarber shop, bath room, etc., on our fast trains. The travelling nursery is to take up about the same amount of space as the pri vate state rooms of the ordinary sleeping car. There will be a sav ing of space of several feet, how ever, as the wide seats on the sides of the state room below the berths are not needed in the nursery, be ing replaced by ottomans and tiny easy chairs scattered over the floor. In this way any danger from sud den starts or sharp curves is ob viated.
