Last a number of mer-
chautF, the tobacco warehouso-
tnen, and other business men met
at the ollice of P. A. Willeox, Esq.,
to taik over the tobacco situation-
In the course of an informal dis
cussion, the fact was brought out
that Florence is surely advancing
as a tobacco market- For the
past week the prices have been
such as to please the most violent
of kickers, and many expressions
of satisfaction have come from
growers and sellers of the weed.
Five or six of our merchants
have procured licenses and are
buying regularly at each day’s
sales. This addition to the num
ber of buyers has, of course, a
wholesome effect upou prices,
sending them upward, and in pro
portion as prices go up the market
secures more patronage and be
comes more firmly established.
Watch Florence. The business
men have taken held of the matter
in the right way.
At last night’s meeting a tobac
co board of trade was organized
with the following officers: Presi
dent, J.J. Hill; vice-president, J.
F- Stackley; secretary and treas
ur, L. U. Meares. Messrs. Meares,
Commander, H. A. Brunson, Cole
and Morton were appointed as a
committee to prepare suitable by
laws, their report to be submitted
at a meeting next Friday night.
Again, watch the board _of trade.

A New Departure Which Will be Appreci
ated by Travellers With Families.
(From the Railway Review.)
Now comos the travelling nur
sery to take its place alongside the
jarber shop, bath room, etc., on
our fast trains. The travelling
nursery is to take up about the
same amount of space as the pri
vate state rooms of the ordinary
sleeping car. There will be a sav
ing of space of several feet, how
ever, as the wide seats on the sides
of the state room below the berths
are not needed in the nursery, be
ing replaced by ottomans and tiny
easy chairs scattered over the floor.
In this way any danger from sud
den starts or sharp curves is ob
viated. As a further protection
against injury to the little ones
the walls of the nursery are heavily
padded and the floor thickly car
peted, so that bumps and bruises |
