Making speed as rapidly as the crowd and the blockaded streets would permit, Rudolph kept his eye fixed on two gen? tlemen, who were sauntering leisurely along some distance in front of him. The tallest was in traveling guise. For a little time, the gentlemen kept on Broadway, but finally turned off on Leonard street. Rudolph was now ena? bled to get nearer-finally he found him? self immediately in their rear. Tho tall gentleman turned his head slightly, to prevent the smoke of his oigar from puffing into his companion's face. He oaught a glimpse of Rudolph, regarded him a moment with an expression of sur? prise and inquiry, and then holding out his band, saluted him. "It must be Rudolph," he said, "but you've grown immensely. How do you do, my boy?" It was Karl von Oppenheim. "Thank you-I am very well," an? swered Rudolph, shaking hands with his uncle. He was introduced to the other gentleman as Herr Koenig. A quiet, gentlemanly looking man, with good ad? dress and easy carriage.
