They have, it nt ascertained, boen taking pay not only its army office ra, but also as members of the Legislature, and this is to be made a subject of Congressional investigation. To that end Mr. Brooks introduced a resolution to-day, directing the General of the army to report by what authority these army officers hold the civil offices, 'thia resolution is the basis of further inquiry. Now, if Mr. Brooks will only take the trouble, he will find that the army officers in Georgia bave high pre? cedents for this iu Virginia, where it is notorious that army officers, in addition to their army, receive full salaries as Judges, Secretary of the Commonwealth, Auditors, Ac. Of course they wouldn't do this if it wero wrong, nod if right in Virginia, why not in Georgia? [ Richmond Enquirer. Rev. The Charlotte, Columbia and Augusta Railroad Compauy having been formed by the consolidation of the Churloltc and South Carolina and the Columbia and Augusta Railroad, and having executed u first und only mortgage on its entire property of 195 miles, iucluding equip? ment, is now redeeming all the bonds formerly issued by said two companies by an exchange of its finit mortgage bonds. These bonds bear seven per cent, interest, payable in Jaunary and J illy, and are amply secured by a mort? gage on property which cost pei- mile more than three times the amount of | bonds so issued. The present price of the stock and the business of the road give ample guaran- , tee of the security of the obligations for u permanent investment. Indeed the opinion is freely expressed, that there is no safer bonds issued by any party or corporation in the State, und they are cheerfully commended to capitalists ns tl safe investment.
