Thc Common Council there insist that negroes shall he entertained at all the hotels and restaurants, just as whites ure. ; The proprietors will not receive them as ! guests, and the question will go to the courts for determination. Restaurant ? keepers will take the same course. The ? argument of tho hotel-keepers is that their business is of a private character, '? and that they have the right to refuse to Jo business with whom they please, black or white. The common law as to hotel or inn-keeper has been construed to be that he is bound to receive all proper persons resorting- lr) his house as travelers.
