When questioned by a Yel9W Sheet reporter the offiger, wh9 arrested Mr. Early said, "For months we have been trying to learn; the 'idtntIty of a 'cer tain gang of b'dotleggers but- all o6ut efforts were in vAin.' Of course we never suspected Mr. Early but yester day reports came to ip that .. man was shooting up the 1500 bleck of Taylor Street so I was sent to inyesti gate. Upon my ai val on the scene Mr. Early jumpec into his:powerful Stutz roadster and proceeded at the rate of 90 miles per hour up Main Street. I followed on my motorcycle. Mr. Early headed for the swamps of the Congaree River and finally stopped in a clump of bushes. When I ar rived h'e Jad just taken a big .lrink of moooShidle from a larte still irhich was in oper#tion,:;tearpy. Mr., Aarly was insanely druniso'I placq'd hin under arrest, brought him to head quarters, and placed the above charges against him." When viewed last night at the city jail it was very apparent that Mr. Early had not recovered from his orgy for he lent upon the bars of his cell and cried "whoopee." This conduct of Mr. Early's was a great shock to the students and alumni for they had implicit faith in the alumni secretary. 1 George Bell Timmerman, president of the aluni association, immediately called a meeting of the association at the Jefferson Hotel. The alumni im mediately voted to discharge Mr. Early 'from his positien as secretary GOVERNOR LEAGUE Cont. From Page 1 things he found out at Carolina that has put him where he is today. From the lower state comes the rumbling ominous thunder. Governor Hildebrand is running for reelection. No thundering speeches with many syllabled words have been heard issu ing from this candidate. The "Old Regime" is running on the same plat form that put it in six years ago. Not much attention is paid to the candi date hmself. All eyes are on b~is campaign manager, Harry Hlingson. Reports have leaked through that a new shipment of machine guns have just arrived in the "Unholy City.' Armored cars are being tested for no reason at all and several aeroplanes have been noticed with machine guns attached. All are looking to Harry for some new trick. 'It may be remem bered that he turned the last election by dropping tear bombs on the ballot boxes. However, it is learned that Con gressman League has imported Pete Wamer with -his newest invention, the "death ray," to try to offset the ad vantage of the Lower State on equip nment. Ralph Leyria, always ready to run, has entered the race on a purely finan cial basis. He put over a big feed for the United Gangsters of South Caro lina and ps.id , or it out, qE 'is, own pocket. JACK AWSON COACHES BEAST Famous Trainer of Pugilist Embarks For Australia CHESTER GUMP'S KANGAROO Will Return For Exhibition At Field House Jack Alliston, the freckled he-man from the New Jersey wharves and Carolina's superb boxing instructress, who flings more towels than he does fists, has signed a contract to teach the manly art to Little Chester Gump's kangaroo in Australia. It is with regret that the great Mr. Alliston announces his departure from our coasts, but he expresses supreme confidence in his new venture. "I think I shall be highly pleased with the change," the respected boxer be gan, "You know it will be far pasier to coach beings that occupy some what the same plane of intelli gence that I do, you know. I really anticipate no trouble in handling the jungle animal," the pugilist continued. According to plans for the new un dertaking, the red-haired "pug" states that Chester's pet will first be put through a series of reducing exercises for the the preliminary workout, dur ing which time several inches will be taken off the kangaroo's "tummy," and after that actual boxing lessons will get under way. "I shall place a glove on each of the animal's paws, then I shall slip one over his tail, in order to insure protec tion from the rear," explained the for mer Jersey boy scout as he scratched the epidermis of his arid brain, in an effort to resurrect an idea, "Next, I shall put on a pair of mittens myself and pat the beast gently about the face until he gets a little toughened." A few of Mr. Alliston's dubious friends were not satisfied with the knowledge obtained and inquired, "But, Jack what's the idea in slipping a glove over the animal's tail." "Well, you see when the opponent leads with a left jab, 'Jippo' can turn on a pivot and cross him with a 'right from the tail'." Mr. Alliston states that after the animal has been thoroughly acquainted with the finer points of the game, the two will return to America and give an exhibition at the Field House, the latter part of the spring. Mr. Craw ford expressed his desiro to referee the match, having bpen keeper of a zoo once, and was unanimously chosen to officiate. Prof. Oscar L. Keith has acquiesced to be the time-keeper. For the benefit of the fans who know neither Mr. Alliston nor "jippo," and desire to recogniize the principals ah they enter the ring, little "Jackie" will wear red trunks.
