Y FACULTY PLAYS FAST FOOTRALL "BULLS" VERSUS "SHEP" Wardlaw and Burney Ruled Out. Murchison Made Hero By Sensational Run Snowden Makes UnoomplUmen tary Renarks About W. L. W lam The football fans of the' student body and faculty received a thrill in Satur day's game between faculty teams "Bulls" and "Sheep" when Murchison, fast stepping guard of the "Sheep," recovered a fumble,' ploughed, side stepped .and stiff armed his way 95 yards for a touchdown in the final minute of play. Here are the "lowdowns" of the whole thing; 'The "Bulls" had the pig skin . on the -"Sheep" ~five yard line when Keith, like Pressley of Clemson, became excited. and passed the ball over "Oxford Joe" Norwood's head. The fast guard Murchison, recovered and finitated Zobel to the tune of 95 yards and a touchdown. Jackson was sent in for 'the extra point but. for once his trusty "toe" missed. The "Sheep" had the "Bulls" out classed .uqtil ;.Pat Wardlaw was ruled out for hurdling. Burney showed up well' at -quarter~until he began -calling signals in German. The referee, Doug las, thought he was cursing and put him out. Reed Smith took his place. The loss of' these two veterans was a blow to the 'Sheep." . Waterfall, Norwood, Chase and Keith starred for the "Bulls" while Lipscombe, Olson, Baker and Murchi son for the "Sheep" covered them selves with .glory. The "Sheep" showed Kennedy's "severe quizzing." Coach Kennedy was handicapped by the loss of the powerful back; Huggins, who was an nihilated in scrimmage last week. The geologists Clark and . Smith played wonderful ends. They seemed to say "thou shalt not pass." Douglas' quick decisions made the game pass off rapidly; he dispensed with the several quarrels in admirable fashion. Especially the one between Snowden'and W. L. Williams.' The real reason of this quarrel has never been "figured out." Snowden was beard to exclaim; "you should be horse whipped.suh." The cheerleaders kept the stands In a continuous uproar. They did good work and are expected to gain recogni tion when "Senator" League makes his run in the spring. THE HONOR OF BAT BOY falls to the lot of Mike Windus. Mike is very efficient in this capacity, having done good work last year. To give praise where praise is due we put on our hat to him. J. N. BURTON, God's meekest gift from heaven had a date the past week and informs us that he had a hot time. "Man, I even held her hand and she didn't say no. Just let it lie, too. Now, what. you know 'bout that, dates are sure the berries, areni't they"? The little blind blizzard is young but better progress is shown every night. IF RUNT PORTER would give those blind bridles a muchly needed rest perhaps his stock in baseball would take a decided jump.. HEN FRUIT RUMORS HAVE IT that Punk At kinson and Harry Zimmerman have recently signed articles for a finish fight to determine the overweight box ing championship of the University. Zimmerman is conceded a more than even chance to win if he can get his deadly left hook by Atkinson's mighty stomach guard. Officials fear an ex plosion if they both miss at the same time. REPORTS STATE that Clancy Jones, freshmen trackster, was caught in the act of attempting suicide re cently after placing a mere third in the track try outs a few days ago. FRANK BLASI, the gentleman with the booming bass voice from Orange County, New Jersey, as Professor Wittkowski is fond of describing him, was recently tendered the responsible and highly salaried position of radio announcer for a prominent station in Frog Level, South Carolina. More liver and onions says Blasi. BESIDES BEING AN ASPIRING HEAVYWEIGHT BOXER, Zimmer map was declared wrestling champion of the- University by' default recently, when it was found out that after he got on the mat, there wasn't room for anyone else. You can't stop these sons of New Jersey. THE UNIVERSITY will enter a team in the annual intercollegiate poker tournament at Chicago next month if Present plans materialize declared Athletic Director Jimmy Driver last week. Funds to defray the expenses of the trip have almost been reached already, and Mr. Driver is confident that the total'will go far over the to~p when the resui4ts of the past two poker games have been officially recorded and accounts settled. LOCAL FIGHT FANS had the same idea of the boxing tournament last week that Will Rogers has about the ukelele. They couldn't tell whether the boxers were fighting or only spar ring. CAROLINA REPUSES ILLINOIS GAME DUE TO ERSKINE CONFLICT EasrW RATES fGHER University Officials Deoide Not To Hurt Feelinge of Brakino Because it interfered with a game with Erskine College on that date, University Athletic Officials yesterday, turned down an offer from the Uni versity of Illinois for a football game next year. "Of course, we can't afford to drop such a large school as Erskine College whom we have been playing for years, just to accept a date with a one cyl inder school like Illinois," one of the officials said when interviewed. "Why what would Erskine think? They'd probably want to sever athletics con nections with us entirely and then we'd be ruined financially. Besides, we are offered games with schools like Illinois every day, but games : with schools like Erskine are too hard to get. We are scared to death now that they're going to drop us off their schedule for even considering the Il linois proposal." Another official said, "Sure, why play Illinois? We could play them every year and beat them by decisive margins but never get any credit for it. On the other hand, every time we defeat Erskine, it is flashed all over the country in a moment and sporting fans everywhere are enlightened. No, sir, we can't afford to drop Erskine." Word has been passed about that the University is considering dropping Maryland and Florida off the schedule to accept games with Newberry and Davidson, but this could not be veri fied at a late hour yesterday afternoon. -U. 3.0. 9 .. ,!DA At an election of the tennis team held in. the basement of Davis College, KershavS Walsh was chosen to head the racket weilders during the coming strenuous season. His selection came as the result of. his e,cellent tennis play in the "Circle," recently per formed at the Town Theatre. "Mr. Walsh's posture is superb," declared Dr. Josiah Norse, tennis and golf player of national fame, "Walsh has all the athletic grace of a Tilden, and besides, he is logical in his tennis playing. He is free 'from fuzzy, thoughtless motion, and frequently deceives his opponents by going one way when his stomach is protruding in another. This was particularly -noticeable in the "Circle," and had much to do with young Walsh's elec tion to the captaincy." -- v.s.o. ENGAGEMENT Mrs. U. B.
