"Clemson Girl Scout Wins, First Place."-Headline jn tl!e Tiger. What's in -a unifgm? 'the little ri won her prize fOr an esday on ,What Constitutes a Good Home." Perhaps some of the local boy scouts can tell her what they consider es bential. Dear old Mercer boasts of its pure pnd somnolent students, who sleep eight and ten hours a day. and night, according to that 'drowsy sheet, the Miercer -Cluster. - Sleeping .has' long been the thing for which Georgians are most noted,, and the sanctimonious 'school of Mercer may soon advertise itself through the magazine ads of "Squishy Beds, You and the Bugs Sleep Well in Them." - It is pleasing, however, to know that some school, prep or of less sig nific'tce, Irreally behaving during th-e day and sleeping at night. The Clus ter nominates Mercer for that honor, fnd the Shamecock wants to be among the first whose congratulations lull the Georgians to permanent sleep. Because men'in one of the South western Colleges' dormitories at Mem phis, Tenneddee, were not too careful about dr#wiog down their shades and keeping- the publid from a' full vie*.. of their manly forms, college authori ties have had the dormitory windows painted white. It.."would.-take an ocean of white paint td get this campus in a state of privacy, for the co-ed ' dorm wouldl require at least two, rivers full tQ it-. self, 'and t the :rdst of t4le campus is equally in need of whitewashing. Some of the local dark horses could vse a redeeming coat of white also, as they are beginning to wear through ip spots. "Military drill is an established practice: at the New York State In stitution for Defective Delinquents, and has progressed to the point where the,. inmates, many of them' iorons, march .in a 'creditable dress parade' twice a week." -College of the City of New York. And there are two places in South Carolina whose inmates specialize in dress parades. Citadel is said to have the best military, but Clemson is a close second. Dear infants, this is one of those modern fairy tales for precocious children. Here it is "Now once upon a time there was a naughty character named Gargan tua, who lived ip the w9rks of that very naughty medieval French writer, Rabelais. Gargantua was miles and miles tall, all his limbs and members were correspondingly large, and among his'vices was a prediliction to huge-young virginal-ladies." When the Columbia Record pub lished a banner headline an inch high to that effect that--' "75 feet of Broad's bridge washed out," a rumor ran around the co-ed dorm to beware and stay indoors, for Gargantjia was up to his tricks again, and might like to catch a fat co-ed. The Minnesota University Daily breaks out with an article flaunting the questionable beading "Bi-sexual Underwear," and then hastens to satisfy the question. Here you are "Womnen have fially penetrated the l*st fortress of $th6. male~ Recent clothing advertilements 'have bioldly stated the fact that the double utility of track panties and hi-sexual under wear is the order of the day. (N6ta .bene, Nurmi Cullum.) Alas for the poor 'male,' woman -has triumphed. There is only one possible solution to the problem. Maled must do away with underwear. Let the Women wear the panties. Red Cobb, the May King, tells the writer that he expects a sweeping ma jority. While writing this article, the au thor has been handed a dispaYeji from the "Unholy City," that their favorite son, Eddie Pi1tchatd has entered the race on the "wet" ticket. Mr. Pritch ard; it may be noted, enters from an other school. Many others have announced their candidacy, but at present are not of sufficient importance to merit recogni tion in this article. Nothing definite will be known until the big party conventions of Tam many, the Horry Clique, the Wood Clan, the Thornwell Independents, the Blue Keys and the co-ed association choose their candidates. The purchase price was not dis closed but it is believed to have been thirty cents and a plug of chewing tobacco. Mercer came to the Gamecocks from the University of Missouri where he was a sensation in many sports being a star football gyarterback,. a wonder, ful forward on the basketball team and the best college pitcher ever developed in the State of Missouri. Charlie has been working out regu larly so far this season on Davis Field and should be in fine shape when he reaches New York. This year in practice Mercer struck out 27 men in one game with his fast ball. Manager Miller Huggins of the Yankees said that in Mercer he had the best pitcher that he had even seen excluding none. Manager Huggins expects to use Mercer in the opening game in New York against the Phila delphia Athletics. Charlie has a host of admirers here who regret his leaving but wish him success in higher company. Stick in there and fight 'em, Charlie, with that line of "bull" of yours. -v.s.o.
