One month later Ragsdale sent to Pettigrew, ic 1 Florence,a check drawn on tHe Treasurer of the United States, payable to Penny,for $100. This checkmarked paid, is on file in the office oi South Trimble,Clerk of the House it Washington. It was endorsed bj Penny over to Ragsdale's bank al Ragsdale's direction. Penny didn't get a cent of the $100, On the contrary $ 30 of it was return, cil to Clerk Trimble to pay somebody in Washington for doing the work,ana the balance, $70?KW? applied by Rags, dale's bank,a I Ragsdale's direction, as a credit on Penny's personal note. Ragsdale has thus smitten the rock of the Treasury fo the tune of something over $5,000 inside of four years.
