P The Prodigal. Death of Capt. J. F. Scott. Capt J F Scott, a prominent far- d mer and merchant, died at his home ^ Hg near Zeb postoffice Sunday morning ^ X'' at 2 a m. Cades, November 7:?On Wednes1 ay,November 2.our community was ;addened by the death of Mr Henry less Johnson, one of the best known tnd most respected men in his ommunity. Mr .Johnson was born n Wayne county, N C, October 19. j 1844, and moved to this county in [Nbb. where he joined his brother md uncie in their extensive turpenine and mercantile business. After uccessfuliy conducting1 this business or several years.Mr Johnso. settled town on his farm.where.as a planter, te attained success. On October 2t>. 167<>, he married diss Margaret Irene McGill, the.oldst daughter of the late Dr S I) Mclill, who survives him with her welve children; three of whom reide in North Carolina and the rest [i Williamsburg county. He was a man of noble character nd high ideals, living a life of pure nd unspotted integrity. His infiunce was always for good, and the xample that he has set would be veil for others to follow. His gr at elight was in making others happy, hinking nothing of sacrificing himelf that he might give pleasure to hose about him. He was a devoted father, a loving lusband, a good neighbor, being one .*ho followed the Golden Rule. In ime of sickness and suffering h? . as always ready to lend a helping ? ** . i? Mr Johnson was a man of strong: onstitution and indomitable energy, ntil about five years ago, when his ealth began to decline; then slowly ut steadily he became more feeble. Ie was confined to his l>ed nearly hree weeks before the end came. ' lis children hovered about his bedide ministering lovingly to his wants; 1 riends came from far and near to epav.in some measure,the goodness e had shown them. Everything was ( one that could be done by human 1 ands, but his summons had come, nd while weeping wife and children 1 tood around him his spirit went out ] > meet his King and it seemed as if n angel whispered: "It is well with Friends, relatives and neighbors j ame to comfort the bereaved fami: in their great sorrow, and colored eople came in to pay the last tribte of respect to the man whom they ' 11 had honored. His remains were taken to Indian- ( j\vn church, where for many years e was a consistent member, and ervices were conducted by Rev A C Iridgman, his pastor. Comforting ords were spoken and touching ngs were sung, and then the body j as gently laid to rest and thegrave Dvered with lovely flowers by symathizing friends. One Who Loved Him.
