Lake City, November 15:?Mr and Mrs M M Moiley went to i/oiumoia. Saturday night. They were sum- j1 I, moned to the bedside of the latter's ^ c brother-in-law, Mr King, who was /I reported as critically ill. Mr King i died before they reached Columbia. 1 Mr J B McCutchen, Jr. now of ,s: Latta, is visiting in and near town. (1 Two motor carloads of Knights ^ from the i^ake City lodge went to j Johnsonville Wednesday night ofj* Last week and assisted in installing a: new lodge at that place. They j1 reached home in the cold gray dawn, 1 and were themselves cold,gray/Aw* I and almost out. It is said that one j * ' I I car was so reluctant to come home; ^ . that it had to be towed by the other | ' a considerable distance, and that a set of harness was employed as the ' tow line. We don't pretend to un- ^ deretand why harnest was used in ^ preference to a rope, unless the car , an much like a mule that its I owner, for the time being, recog-1 nized it as a mule. The "steenth" ! ? degree sometimes has a queer effect, | ^ ev^ on those who have gone! j through it time and again. Mr L B Roper, formerly of Single, of Bennettsville, was here last week. .. Mr M K Gravely, who sells fire ^ proof safes between tobacco seasons, p has gone on the road for the winter. ^ Some time ago Mr Charles Mul- 1 drow in his automobile ran over Mr James McCown as the latter, who t was afoot, was attempting to cross < a street in Florence. Mr McCown, j who was seriously hurt, brought suit against Mr Muldrow, and last l week, on the trial of the case, the I . jury rendered a verdict in Mr Mc-1 Cown's favor for $4,000.00. This' verdict will, we believe, have a good ! effect throughout the entire country. There are some who, when in a car, | act as if they owned the earth, and | people on foot are nothing more than cattle, and have no rights which these car drivers are called , upon to respect. In saying this we j have no reference to those who own and run automobiles in this town. I , We have never heard complaint I against any local car owner except | one, and not even against this one lately. In fact, the car drivers here behave much better than some horse! drivers. The man, whoever he may be, because he is in control of the ' power of a horse or an automobile, j loses sight of the rights of others,' ought to be treated as a common criminal. Such a one is an enemy j of society and should be locked up | until he learns his duty to his fellow1 men. W L B. "I a;n pleased to recommend Chamberlain^ Cough Remedy as the best ^ thing I know of and safest remedy for coughs, colds and bronchial I trouble." writes Mrs L B Arnold of ? Denver. Colo.
