r . 1} * | Graded School Notes. | On Friday afternoon, October 130, l^t >. the Weenee Literary Society in ci its regular meeting". Ttie meeting proved very interesting and helpful. If the men:fcer> keep up their interest and zeal in their society work it will be a great help to them as well as an indispensable factor in our i ? ? ?1. A. . J t school. We were aenguieu iuj /""acid to our number Mr Robert Kirk and nope be will derive great benefits from our much beloved society. The enrollment is now thirty nine. ^ A C Hinds, Esq., favored us * with a very interesting talk in ^ the auditorium on last Friday afternoon at 1:30o'clock. We can assure Mr Hinds that his talk was not given in vain. It was I taken to heart by every pupil. We shall be glad to welcome any others who may have something so interesting and mstrucOur school grounds are beginning to look better. Most of the rubbish around the new building has been cleared away and the little trees in the front yard are doing their best to look i ? j green and wavy. But if our trustees would only put a fount- i ain midway between the steps i and tront gate and do away with , the old iron artesian well, the looks and beauty of our grounds would be greatly enhanced. We ; hope that they will. 1 Among thejvisitors to the fair ; last week was Mr Odus C Kibler. i He left for Columbia Thursday < H morning and before returning, i spent a day or two in Newberry $ B at his home. Miss Cora Garner, j S the accomplished vocal teacher, < R took charge ot Mr Kiblei*s work ( B and in two days had all the boys < H in school in love with her. 1 Miss Minnie Bryan, a young r lady of the ninth grade, was I called home Friday evening to the death bed of her grand < I mother. We deeply sympathise i | with Miss Bryan in her sorrow. 1 | Messrs Atwood and Junius ( I Mcintosh of the ninth grade < I spent the week-end with their r I parents in Clarendon county. \ Seven Years of Proof. The members of the Weenee Literary Society gave a box party at the school building Friday n ight, October 23, to raise money to help furnish their hall. All present seemed to ?njoy themselves to the utmost. All the girls brought boxes, which the boys were to ouy and eat with the girl fortune brought his way. When the girls and boys had all gathered in the reading room, which was concerted inio a very cosy parlor :or the occasion, the boys were fiven little slips of paper with a syllable of some flower and and the girls were given the ather syllable. Finally, after ronsiderable ridiculous hunting; :he name of the flower was made, rhen the boy had to go and 3uy a box and he and "his girl" would find some "cute little :ozy corner" and enjoy the ve' y :empting contents of their aoxes. It was not until eleven /clock that the young people started for their several homes. The evening passed pleasantly with music, voting for the most popular girl and a marble con:est. Mr Cook won the marble rontest and received a beautiful ;ake and Miss Roberta Coker, who received the highest num>er of votes for being the most popular girl, was awarded a box >f candy.
