Wrig-ht Spears, pres ident of Columbia College, will preach at Newberry College worship services in Wiles Chap el next Sunday (December 17) at 11:15 a. m. The public is invited to attend. The Rev. Dr. Spears is a leader both in education and in affairs of the Methodist Church. He has headed Columbia Coll ege since 1951 and prior to that time was pastor of churc hes in Ruby, Bamberg, Mann ing, Charleston and Florence. He is current chairman of the South Carolina Educational Television Study committee and the state’s Commission on High er Education Facilities. In addition he is a member of the General Board of Education of the Methodist Church and was a delegate to the General Con ference of Methodist Churches in 1956, 1960, and 1964. A Wofford College graduate, he received a B. D. degree from Duke University and was a- warded an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Wofford. SUMMER RECEIVES ASSISTANTSHIP Henry Baker Summer, 1967 Newberry College graduate now in graduate school at Louisiana State University, is the reci pient of a $1,750 assistantship for the 1967-68 academic year. His duties consist of auditing the accounts of fraternities and sororities. Summer is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Walter Sum mer of this city.
