PAGE 6—The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, Dec. 14, 1967 To preach at Wiles Chapel Dr. R. Wrig-ht Spears, pres ident of Columbia College, will preach at Newberry College worship services in Wiles Chap el next Sunday (December 17) at 11:15 a. m. The public is invited to attend. The Rev. Dr. Spears is a leader both in education and in affairs of the Methodist Church. He has headed Columbia Coll ege since 1951 and prior to that time was pastor of churc hes in Ruby, Bamberg, Mann ing, Charleston and Florence. He is current chairman of the South Carolina Educational Television Study committee and the state’s Commission on High er Education Facilities. In addition he is a member of the General Board of Education of the Methodist Church and was a delegate to the General Con ference of Methodist Churches in 1956, 1960, and 1964. A Wofford College graduate, he received a B. D. degree from Duke University and was a- warded an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Wofford. Riggin Jr., as sociate professor and acting head of the biology department, to professor and department head. Dr. James R. Rinehart, asso ciate professor of economics, to professor and head of the de partment of economics and business administration. Dr. Karlheinz K. Brandes from assistant professor to as sociate professor of chemistry. Dr. John A. Meador Jr., as sistant professor and acting head of the department of his tory and political science, to associate professor and depart ment head. F. M. SUMMER RECEIVES ASSISTANTSHIP Henry Baker Summer, 1967 Newberry College graduate now in graduate school at Louisiana State University, is the reci pient of a $1,750 assistantship for the 1967-68 academic year. His duties consist of auditing the accounts of fraternities and sororities. Summer is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Walter Sum mer of this city. DARBYS HAVE SON Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Darby announce the birth of their first born, a son, Robert Duane, December third at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Darby is the former Linda Baker of Whitmire. Marriages Richard C. Corley of Newber ry and Judy Willard of Whit mire were married at Newber ry on December second by Pro bate Judge Frank H.
