Baker Pinckney N. Abrams Louis C. Floyd Thomas H. Pope R. Aubrey Harley directed to and for the Children of Israel, the two million rescu ed from Egypt. In the time of King Saul the Jewish people had a govern ment of their own, though the great projfliets continued to proclaim the will of Jehovah. Now we come to the time of God on earth, in the person of His son, our Saviour and Redeemer, our Guide and Hope. Jesus, on one Sabbath came with H is disciples and in the field the hungry disciples plucked and ate grain in the field. The Pharisees complained that this was work on the Sabbath and was clearly and explicitly forbidden by Jehovah in the Commandment. Jesus called attention to David’s violation of a sacred law by taking and eating the shew bread sacredly kept in the Holy of Holies of the Temple. Jesus proclaimed himself as Lord of the Sabbath. Hear Him: “And it cam*' to pass, that h" went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples bf'gan, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he .^aid unto them. Have ye never read what David did. when he had need, and was an hungred, he. and they that were with him*' How he went into the house • if God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the hew-bread, which is not law ful to eat bu* for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him^ And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” Now. then, are we under the Mosaic law as given by Jehovah ? Or were those laws for the Jews only and for their guidance and governance during that period of un organized association? If we respect the inhibition as a rule of religious observ ance how shall we justify sales on the Sabbath? And it we permit sales how can w< justify such discriminations a.‘ to permit the sale of a hundred articles but no sale of others? How do we reconcile the sale of this, that and the other but prohibiting the sale of a neck tie to a tie-less man ? When and why is it unlawful to sell ice cream and forbid the sale of a neck tie? Are we throwing overboard the Divine Law, as given to Moses, or are we contending that the JewLh law was re pealed when the Jews called for a King instead of govern ment by Jehovah through His prophets Are V,-.- now under a n--w dispensation which disregards the Mosaic revelation of God’s direction: or are we so confus 'd we can’t distinguish between r ght and wrong^ Certain it is that today wv are no.ther flesh nor fowl. I'v- read the account in Exodus, clearly addressed tc the Jews; and I’ve read the account of Mark and the words of Jesus. I am not discussing this en tirely as a religious matter but in His supernal wisdom the creator of man knew that a man needs a day for rest and refreshment. And tnat applies not only to h;S body but even more so to his mind and his spirit. Have you ever had that fatigue of mind that seems to bee-loud your judgment but later on the solution springs into intelligent grasp of the matter ? The spirit also responds to refreshment. I am not introducing a foreign topic, or telling of an Brother of BIRTHDAYS local man dies Ow Nelson Kelly, 66, died early Saturday morning at the Veterans hospital in Columbia after a lingering illness. Among his survivors are two brothers, Ross D. Kelly and T. R. Kelly of Newberry. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. Willie Cromer. Burial was in Rose- mont cemetery, Clinton. ex pent nee we shall surely have ? The one certainty of life is death, it comes to us, rich and poor, aristocrat and begger, male and female, all types, for one Creator made us all whe ther we brush aside the Sacred Book or observe the experience common to all humanity. We need not go about with sad faces; and we should so live as to develop the rich mind —body and spirit which was Je hovah’s greatest creation. Remember the faith not only of the prophets of old but of our mothers for they accepted David’s tribute: “Thou hast been our dwell ing place ;n all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth; or thou hadst form*-d the earth and the world —Even from everlasting to everlasting Thou are God.” Let us examine ourselves: What do we think of the Great Jehovah, maker of Heaven and earth ? Are we content to dis- r--gard Him until the physician tells us that we are beyond hope; that we are about to learn at first hand the Great Beyond ? When a man or wo man reaches an advanced age and observes the vacant places of loved ones; when the tomb stone tells us of those we once knew so well but now f^fit; to face with the Maker of all things, Judges of all men, the Eternal Spirit—do we recog nize the Creator now or do we wait until the time of Judg ment ?
