charged. The following is the report of the grand jury: To the Honorable O. II. Buchan ?/i, Presiding Judge : The Grand Jury beg leave to make the following report: We have acted on all bills handed to us by the Solicitor and have made a report on same. We have examined the various offices cohnected with the court and find them well kept in all respects. A special committee was appointed by the Grand Jury to examine the books of the Auditor, Treasurer and Clerk of the Court, who, together with an expert, examined said books and jj-r; found that said books were pro perly kept and that all the funds receif^M^by said officers are fully and properly accounted for. The Grand Jury also examined the L bonds of. all the oflicers of the county and find that said bonds are, in their opinion, good. We ??-'"/also examined the Jail and the Poor House and find Itiom nooilw V?WJ kept and in good condition. VVe sent a committee to look into the condition of the chain gang and it reports that two new tents are needed and we recommend that eame be furnished. We recommend that the. st&ps leading to the Court Room be repaired. We also recommend that necessary repairs to the Poor House chimney be made. We examined the books of the Dispensary at Ker ehaw, 6. O., and find that the gross sales during the quarter */' ' ending Sept.. 30th, 1890, to he $3f*fc$5v.d5,the gross profits $741.06, th& tota^ expenses $401.71 and the net j^ofits $339.35, one half of which Hks been turned over to county and the other half to the town <ff Kershaw as per receipts on filn We Examined the books of the Dispenser at Lancaster, S. C., and find the gross sales for said quar ter to be $4620.05. the gross pro fits $948.18, the total expenses $400.65 and the net profits $547.53, one half of which has been turned over to the county and one half to the town of Lancaster as per receipts on file. The Grand Jury recommend that the Dispensers he more careful in observing the hours, as pro vided hy law, in which liquor may l>e sold and when liquor is sold after hours, in seeing that the Inscription presented is a bona ffde document. v The road leading from the town of Lancaster to Chesterfield has been reported to us as being in a very bad condition for the first * mile outside of the town and we recommend that the SunerviKor I r - give his immediate attention to same and have it put in good condition. The Grand Jury presented Stephen F. Hough for disturbing religious worship at Mt. (Jlarmel Oamp Ground, in Lancaster county. on or about Sept. 9, 1899. Wo are informed that Trial Justice King issued a warrant for said Stephen F. Hough, who plead guilty and was fined but, in our opinion, the Trial Justice did not have jurisdiction, and we therefore make this presentment, so that, proper steps may be taken. We present Thomas Knight for selling hard cider on August 20, 1899, thereby breaking the Sabhath. The Moriah Association was held at '1 axahaw,'October 12, Id, " 15, The hospitality of-Umgood people of the community was kind, liberal and generous. Everyone was well provided for and seemed to enjoy the occasion. The next session of the body will be held with the Fork Hill church in 1900. The usual subjects were well discussed and resolutions looking to a forward movement in work were unanimously adopted. Williams we left Lancaster last Wednesday for Taxahaw, where the Moriah Association was to meet ! the next day. The night was spent under the hospitable roof of Hon. Jonas Bstridge, who is one of the best of men, and at present a member of the legislature from his county. If that bo ly was made up entirely of such material it would be greatly improved. Since the last session Rev. J no. S. Croxton, who had been moder ator of the Moriah for twentyfive years, had died and so it be- | came necessary to choose his successor. Brethren S. N. Watson and T. A. Dabney tied on the second ballot, anil otj the third Brother Dabney proved to bo the one chosen to till the place of one of the noblest and best men (Jod ever gave the Baptists. Pastor Boldridge 18 not only a power in ttie Moriah, but he is doing a great work in Lancaster. The splendid brick church is going up rapidly and it will be a monument to him and the good men who helped him build it.. Had we our choice of pastorates, when opportunity for usefulness was to be considered, we should choose the Lancaster Baptist church at Lancaster court house, S. C. We served our first pastorate of over four vears there and we love the Baptists of this town and county as dearly as any man ever loved a Christian people, and it does us good to feel that our love is heartily reciprocated.
