charged. The following is the report
of the grand jury:
To the Honorable O. II. Buchan
?/i, Presiding Judge :
The Grand Jury beg leave to
make the following report:
We have acted on all bills handed
to us by the Solicitor and have
made a report on same.
We have examined the various
offices cohnected with the court
and find them well kept in all
respects. A special committee
was appointed by the Grand Jury
to examine the books of the
Auditor, Treasurer and Clerk of
the Court, who, together with an
expert, examined said books and
jj-r; found that said books were pro
perly kept and that all the funds
receif^M^by said officers are fully
and properly accounted for. The
Grand Jury also examined the
L bonds of. all the oflicers of the
county and find that said bonds
are, in their opinion, good. We
??-'"/also examined the Jail and the
Poor House and find Itiom nooilw
V?WJ
kept and in good condition. VVe
sent a committee to look into the
condition of the chain gang and
it reports that two new tents are
needed and we recommend that
eame be furnished. We recommend
that the. st&ps leading to
the Court Room be repaired. We
also recommend that necessary
repairs to the Poor House chimney
be made. We examined the
books of the Dispensary at Ker
ehaw, 6. O., and find that the
gross sales during the quarter
*/' ' ending Sept.. 30th, 1890, to he
$3f*fc$5v.d5,the gross profits $741.06,
th& tota^ expenses $401.71 and
the net j^ofits $339.35, one half of
which Hks been turned over to
county and the other half to the
town <ff Kershaw as per receipts
on filn
We Examined the books of the
Dispenser at Lancaster, S. C., and
find the gross sales for said quar
ter to be $4620.05. the gross pro
fits $948.18, the total expenses
$400.65 and the net profits $547.53,
one half of which has been
turned over to the county and
one half to the town of Lancaster
as per receipts on file.
The Grand Jury recommend
that the Dispensers he more careful
in observing the hours, as pro
vided hy law, in which liquor may
l>e sold and when liquor is sold
after hours, in seeing that the
Inscription presented is a bona
ffde document.
v The road leading from the town
of Lancaster to Chesterfield has
been reported to us as being in a
very bad condition for the first
* mile outside of the town and we
recommend that the SunerviKor I
r -
give his immediate attention to
same and have it put in good condition.
The Grand Jury presented Stephen
F. Hough for disturbing religious
worship at Mt. (Jlarmel
Oamp Ground, in Lancaster county.
on or about Sept. 9, 1899. Wo
are informed that Trial Justice
King issued a warrant for said
Stephen F. Hough, who plead
guilty and was fined but, in our
opinion, the Trial Justice did not
have jurisdiction, and we therefore
make this presentment, so
that, proper steps may be taken.
We present Thomas Knight for
selling hard cider on August 20,
1899, thereby breaking the Sabhath.
Witnesses to prove same :
"I wish to express my thanks to the
manufacturers of Chamberlan's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, for
having put on the market such a wonderful
medicine," says W. W. Massin- '

many thousands of mothers whose
children have been saved frpin attacks
of dysentery and cholera infantum
who must also feel thankful. It is for
