Wood, for the home team, was in line form stricking out twelve men and yielded only two hits. Trammel, for the visitors, was also in good form and only really yielded one hit. In the third inning Maxwell scored the lirst run for Gaffney, and the fans went wild. In the next inning, how ever. a damper was put on their en- thusiasm when Turner, for the visi tors. crossed the plate tieing the score. Neither team scored again un til the last half of the ninth, when Curry scored on a beautiful sacrifice, winning the game. The Tucapau team is at Blacksburg for two games. TUCAPAU. At 11 o’clock a. m. we left Ashe ville for Hendersonville where we ar rived at 12 o'clock and were taken to the Wheeler Hotel for dinner. The Wheeler is a splendid structure situat ed on a high elevation from which view may he seen. Mr. Wheeler is another South Carolinian and is tin* proprietor of the Columbia Hotel at Columbia. S C. The mayor of the city. Mr. Michael Schenk, i who by the way is the first I'emoeratic mayor that the city has lad for fifteen years), joined the party at dinner and tendered a tide to the party around the city. After a most delightful drive maned to some extent by a shower, the party started for Lake Toxaway at 4 o’clock. Hendersonville is 2.100 feet alntve -••a level but Lake Toxaway forty-two miles from this point is a thousand feet higher and is one of the most delightful spots in America. Moun tain peaks innumerable rise to lofty heights, and between them mammoth gorges eut their way. carrying with them sparkling streams forming waterfalls of rare beauty and fasci nation and which are alive with mountain trout, that toothsome deii- eacy so dear to the heart of the epicure. The hotel is under the manage ment of the Toxaway Inn Company and is a splendid building. The rooms are large and light and can o» had single or en suite. The ToxAway Inn Company was organized by Mr. C. A. Wood, of Boston, Mass., who is its president and Is one of the most noted hotel men In America He has operated the famous Tampa Bay Ho tel and the Belleview In Florida, the Piny Woods at Thomasville, Ga.. and other large hotels in the country. At present he is conducting the Pied mont in Atlanta and the Bell view In Boston. He is a splendid gentleman and all who meet him are delighted with his affability.
