Hundreds of the friends of both families were present to witness the nup tials and bid the happy couple "Ciod speed" on their new way of life. For ourselves we claim the right of friendship to say, not publicly, but to our friends'themselves, how hoartily and sincerely we wish for them the fullest measure of huppiness vouchsafed to mortal* in this world. Nearly a Serious Fire. On Sunday morning about five o'clock Mr. J. W. ltykard, who occupies the Dendy building on the corner, was awakened by a.puffing noise, and discovered that some clothing and bedding which he had stored in trunks and boxes in the passage, was on fire. He threw the whole blazing mass into the chimney, which set that afire and caused the alarm of fire to be given generally. ' The exertions of those present were sufficient to quell the flames bofore there wad much damage done to the building. Mr. llykard lost all the contents of the boxes and trunks, and had his hands badly burned, so much so that he is unable to do any work. It is supposed that rats set fire to some matches in the trunks and thus started the fire. When the Legislature adjourned, the State treasury held about $050,000, an amount in excess of the holdings of ihe treasury at any time during the last ton years at least. The payment, of the expenses of the General Assembly and its various appropriations and the partial payment of the interest on the State d?*l>t has reduced the amount to about $500,000. which, however, is a pretty formidable sum. There will be no May collection of taxes this year, so that the $200,000 annually collected during that month will be lacking. The Administration desires to avoid the necessity of borrowing money during the summer, and it is believed that with the large surplus now on hand the Government can bo run until the fall colledtion of taxes without borrowing a dollar. The mm fortahle condition of the treasury is duo in groat part to the close collection of taxes last year ; and it is a subject or congratulation by all citizens. Dr. Woodrow at Augusta. Dr. Woodrow went over to Augusta on Tuesday night to appear before the Presbytery to answer the charge of heresy, which it was understood would be, at but, formally made against him. When the Presbytery met on Wednesday morning, and Dr. Woodrow appeared to confront his accusers, it was found that the Secretary of the Synod had 'ailed to transmit the papers in the case down to the Presbytery, and of course there was no indictment upon whie'i the court could act.
