fen COOPERATION OF ! FLEETS DISCUSSED American Craft Win High Praise for Anti-Subma- | rine Work. ] 1 Washington. American naval co. ; operation with the Allies was further I discussed today at a conference be- < tveen the British ambassador, Sir j Cecil Spring-Rice, the British naval i attahce, Commodore Gaunt, Secretary Daniels and Admiral Benson, chief i of operations. : No announcement of the results of 1 the conference was made, and it was < generally regarded as a sequel to the discussions which have been gonig on between Secretary Daniels, Admiral Benson and Admiral Mayo, comnran- i der cf the Atlantic fleet, who recently has returned from naval confer- , ence with the Allies at London. The only announcemnet Secretary Daniels has made of the conference so i far is that they concern very grave subjects. As usual, all information cf the ex- i act nature of the conference was with held, but as might be supposed, much of it concerned measures to combat the submarine campaign. It was said that bearing in mind always the danger of over-optimism, the progress being made by the combined fleets was more than merely encouraging and that the participation of American ships had brought very favorau.v. comment from the foreign officials. JAIL MAY BE FATE OF COAL OPERATORS: , Washington. Fines or imprisonments or both may bo inflicted by the Government upon anthiacite and bituminous coal operators, who refuse to abide by the terms of the Fuel Control Act or disregard the prices fixed U.. ii.? i-? : i i i . >: u%v iru t itsiut'iu s jii ui'iciiiiuiiuii | last August. President Wilson is devoting much attention to the coal situation. His information is to the effect that there is not such a shortgae as has been reported, but that the operators in certain sections are not taking enough coal from the mines to supply the demands of tlie Government and the pub lie. The Fuel Control Act gives the President ample authority to act in such cases. You aie ready to enter into the spirit of the great movements to; save food and in every way possible help this government to win Bin greatest war of history. e> NOTICE OF SALE.
