It Is uot a now disease, it is an old condition receiving modern attention. This tics harbor a in its body a -pecific germ that causes disease, therefore every calf dropped among the Mcks sifters from the diseasr and stunted in growth throughout its life for that reason wo see inferior scrub cattle on our ranges and farms. OftU.lo rftitnH ah/illl knnna ? wv ?> MIWVV4 u v/v/ u VUU IV/ n IJ o u 11 VI 1 La our pastures away from the ticks unlii over six months old then exposed to the ticks usually die from the fever, This is no taeatmeni for this dl*oa9e so our cattle must die if expoted to ticks. You see that nature alway's tries her best to take care of all amlnal and plant life so it is through the power of the young oalf that you are able to prepetuate cattle of the kind and quality we see hero in your county. This condition prohibits the introduction of high class animals to improve home stock because such animals die from tho fever and your markets are restricted on account of quarintine. The only reason your cattle sell ' for $8 and $12 per head la the tick i and quarantine restrictons and btcauae you cannot safely improve your cattle. Tha t ok is doing all ( this for you, simply depriving your people from growing large numbers 1 jf high quality c-t?lo for which there j is a groat demand. Tho cattle tick is easily eradicated , from all from all farms and ranges ind maybe accomplished by your [cooperation in from 4 to (1 or 8 months, This tick depends on the blood of cattle or ,t dies of starvation. This tick infests cattle only occassionally, horses and mules if they use the same Golds. It does not infest man or otoer animals except by mere accident and then only temporarily, therefore.Ibis particular lick is easy eradicated by disinfecting the cattle by d pping in a v&t or by t .e change of pasture for ihe periou mentioned. Eradication of the tick is based on its life history. The tick mu3t get on cattle, ongorge with blood and drop to the ground to deposit eggs, ^hich requires 18 to 21 days therefore by disinfecting cattle at regular intervals of 14 days the tick is destroyed and deprived of depositing ' g#s~~n0 etfK8? no licks Repeat the iretlment for 12 to 14 times and all ticks wiil have been eradicated from your pastures and ranges. This 1 work is going on in every Southern t ite through the co-operation of the government in the sta\o officials, far mors and all c't zcls. One third of t lis fct .to has been freed of the tick and the work should be extended in all remaining counties. The dipping val and the standard arsenic solution will, if put into op eration do the work for you, Details of these plans may be had on application to your Slate Veternarian, Clemson College, S, C. or the Bureau of Animal Industry, Alberta, Ga.
