Ill#""- I > < < SEVERE CUTTING AFFRAY Between Melvin Timmons and Other Parties Near Aynor, S. C. Ne ws reached Con way last Sunday evening of an alTray in the Aynor section, on that day, bit ween Melvin Timmons, and a younj* man whose name was stated to be Boyd. Tiuimons received several severe gashes across the breast, and ethers on the side of his face or neck. The cuts wero serious and the message statod that he was likely to bleed t > ded?h. The particulars of the affair cou'd not be learned, but it was ttated that five minutes before the cutting the two men were together and apparently as friendly as ever. A Lodge of Sorrow. A lodge of sorrow will take place at Rehoboth church by Jordanville Lodge A. F. W. Last Thursday evening Charles Lewin, an Oliver Typewriter salesman, was tried before the Mayor for disorderly conduct and fined $10.00 which he paid by way of a check. He came on to Conway on the late train. Oa Friday morning the may or of Loris wired that the check had been countermanded, and the man was arrested by the chic f of police here and held until the currency was put up. Old Colored Citizen Meets Death at Hands of Son SLAYER IS AT LARGE Difficulty Started With a Sister of the Slayer,--Magistrate and Constable Were on the Scene When Killing Occurred,--Old Man Lived Until Sunday Night. Near Bucksport on last Sunday morning, Bill Owens, a negro, shot and killed his father, Simon Owen?, _1J1 n ? 9 A \ - - an oiu negro wen kdowd in mai neighborhood. The load of shot took eITect in tie top of the old man's head, tearing a piece of the tip away. Notwithstanding this terrible wound, the mau lived until Sunday night. The difficulty is said to have cotnmeuoed between Bill Owens and a sister of bis who lived in her father's house. Hill accused her of bad conduct He returned to Simon's home about 11 o'clock with a gun to kill hor, but his si Or had hid from him in t-ie loft. He then stai ted over t > the home of ani tb( r sister to hunt her, when his father, Simon Owens, met him and tried to make him give him the gun. He would not giye up the gun, and wbou his father followed him, he shot him with the re suits above stated. The magistrate aud his constable tried to pursue the slaytr, but he kept loading ard firing and thus made his escape into the swamps, and at last accounts be was still at. large. In last week's issue appeared a letter from "one interested" to the effect that the winners of ceitiin prizes, or premiums at the County fair, were left out of the lists as furnished for publication. This is to be deplored. The com mi 13 upon i whom fail the duty to make up the lists, should go about this in a systematic way, and try to seo that everybody gets exact justice. The fair is an enterprise started and conducted for the common good. Those who rssht in it by contribu/mg exhibit deserve mention. Ii is to be hop.-d that this will not occur again.
