SUBSCRIPTION ONE DOLLAR PER YEAR H. H* WOODWARD; Editor THURSDAY, JUNE 11, HKlg^r I desire to express ^JJ#?t>gh the columns of tho llcrald ^-r" my impression of this my adoptod home. I came over here from Rose Hill, Dupler county, N C., about live weeks ago and opened a business. I've done exceedingly well, so am elated over the country. Surely this is the 4'Land of Promise" and I am more fortunate than Moses of old who was only permitted to peep longingly into that land which llowed with milk nnrl hr?no? t ? *?* ?? L ? * * iuuouiuuu us i nave entered into that land. Surely this is the garden spot of our dear country, as will be seen from the following: There lias been paid for berries here this season about $100,000.00 in cash, most of which passed through tho Bank of Tabor. Our people wears smiles which won't come off and every one has money, so there isn't a semblance of a panic here. Our people are glad that tho berry season is ended, so that they may now cultivate their crops, and which are now looking lino. Our streets are almost deserted today as many of our citizens arc at the voting place to vote on the whiskey question. May God grant that prohibition carries as the writer has 1 seen the dire ovil from its use. 1 The Bank of Tabor is in a very > prosperous condition under the very ' efficient management of Mr D C '< Fussell. Early in the berry season < it moved to more commodious quar- i ters, the old being entirely too in- 1 adequate. Our people demonstrat- < ed their faith in our bank by their 1 liberal deposits. A bank is a great \ factor in building up a community, i as it is the medium through which 1 both the lender and borrower may ? promote enterprise, thereby alYord- ' iug employment for many. 1 Several dwellitog houses are being j erected here and the sound of the carpenter's busy hammer make music in our midst, Among those be- 1 ing erected are the following: Our section foreman, Mr J M Logan, a ! nice dwelling; Dr Floyd, a handsome < modern two story dwelling to cost 1 about $3,000, so I've been informod; * Mr Charlie Whittington, a nice dwelling. There are others contemplated and no doubt work will soon begin on them, all of which means much for our town Real estate is changing hands and J each time it does so enhance in valuo. ! Mr W H Whittington and partner will soon open a photograph gal- t lery in Bill Fowler's building, which ^ is Wing remoddled. We wish for * them every success as there is not anything of the kind here. Mr Whittington also informs mo ho is t competing for the best aero of corn \ flllH a/n Vinr>r\ ?** '' ? ! ? 1 ' "* ^ "uj'u ut vYin tvm uy lie is ue- q serving. Mr Dozier Harrelsou, our hotel \ proprietor, has repainted his hotel, t which greatly adds to the artistic appearance of it and further demonstrates the fact that he prospered during tho berry season. Mr Chester Watts, our popular * young magistrate, is preparing to J open a grocery business here and we hope him much success, t # ltecoutly there has been much c sickness in. our section, but we are t Plan lor Summer Comfort. tt Don't add the heat of a II kitchen fire to the sufficient 11 discomfort of hot weather, // Use a New Perfection Wick * Blue Flainc Oil Cook-Stove and cook in comfort. We hope she will soon recover. One can get good, pure and sparkling Artesian water hero and it would pay well in added health. The writer drinks it from Mr. C W llrown's well and enjoys thjj best of health and is taking^H-ilosh daily. It is free for thejptfmping. Our ostiaxmed citizen, Mr C C is shipping considerable dumber, which indicates tho panic in the North is lifting. Mr Luke and Mrs ti C Watts were shopping in our town recently aud called on us. Mr Levi Grainger's smiling face was seen on our streets Tuesday. Come again. Mr Frank Cox, of near Guide, was a pleasant culler at our place recently. Handel 1 11 Fussell. Old Soldier Dies Suddenly.
