Rfj V'' "'IB HPS SPRING TER1 The First Term of Court H Judge Shipp Presiding. 1 Attending the Op JUDGE S. W There was no business done by the court on last Monday until in the afternoon. The dedication of the now court house, and jail was completed last Monday in the court room, beginning at throe o'clock. JudgeS. W. G. Shipp, the newly elected Judge of the newly formed 12th Circuit, presided. The tirst tiling that was done after the meeting was called to order by Hon Robert 11. Scarborough, Chairman of the liar Association, was the order of the commission of Judge Shipp. This was followed by an address by Col C. P. Quattlebaum, the Chairman of the liuilding Commission, who in very appropriate language delivered the new temple into the hands of the Judge and Solicitor and county oflicors. In receiving same., Judge S. \V. (1 Shipp mado a very appropriate address, and was followed by Solicitor Wells, who threw many very beautifuijbouquets at tho Pee Dee section, and at Horry's new building*, and bespoke of her modern progress. Hon R. II. Scarborough read an extract from an article written for tho "Green B.igs," written bv a distinguished jurist of tho country, on the principles of the common law aud the protection which it throws around each citizen, from the very moment of its birth, Its sentiments were beautiful. Col C. P. Quattlobuim then introduced Judge Hudson, who addressed the meeting, and his ad lress was indeed gems of thought from beginning to end. Judgi Hudson expressed beautiful sentiment, not only in relation to the new building, but to the old one, which lie says should be re>po ted in nnmory of the people, us being the foui da'ion upon which the present progress of the county has been built. II said that he had been curious to know what sort of a court house had boon erected to take the olaco of the one that lie had occupied. He eulogized the people of Horry county, both in the war where he ha.l been associated with them, and in every walk of life. His address concluded the exercises, and the business of the court proceeded. The Judge charged the grand jury and several indictments were handed them for consideration. This brought the afternoon to the hour ( f adjournment, and the court took a rec s > until Tuesday morning. This is a beginning for Doris, and before long the place will be full of brick buildings. Judge Hudson, of Dennettsville, a most distinguished jurists, attended the dedicatory exorcises and remained in Conway for several days. At last arrangements have been made to begin the erection of a new church for the Baptist denomination at Gonwav. The mittor has been up for several years, but one thing and another, has delayed it until now. Architect limit/. of Wilmington, N C., long since prepared the plan, and they have recently been accepted. The bricks for the building have been purchased ironi u f Little, and part of them *ro on the grounds. Tho new church will be located about tho middlo of the property, and it may be necessary to movo the old church somewhat :>ack, in order to mnke room for the lew structure. Tho old building vill be used until the new one has >een completed, and will then be hrown away. The contractor has iot yet been selected, but that natter will be attonded to before 'ery long, and the work of erecting he new church will be started.
