JUDGE S. W
There was no business done by
the court on last Monday until in
the afternoon.
The dedication of the now court
house, and jail was completed last
Monday in the court room, beginning
at throe o'clock. JudgeS. W.
G. Shipp, the newly elected Judge
of the newly formed 12th Circuit,
presided.
The tirst tiling that was done after
the meeting was called to order
by Hon Robert 11. Scarborough,
Chairman of the liar Association,
was the order of the commission of
Judge Shipp. This was followed by
an address by Col C. P. Quattlebaum,
the Chairman of the liuilding
Commission, who in very appropriate
language delivered the new temple
into the hands of the Judge and
Solicitor and county oflicors. In receiving
same., Judge S. \V. (1 Shipp
mado a very appropriate address,
and was followed by Solicitor Wells,
who threw many very beautifuijbouquets
at tho Pee Dee section, and at
Horry's new building*, and bespoke
of her modern progress.
Hon R. II. Scarborough read an
extract from an article written for
tho "Green B.igs," written bv a
distinguished jurist of tho country,
on the principles of the common law
aud the protection which it throws
around each citizen, from the very
moment of its birth, Its sentiments
were beautiful.
Col C. P. Quattlobuim then introduced
Judge Hudson, who addressed
the meeting, and his ad lress was indeed
gems of thought from beginning
to end. Judgi Hudson expressed
beautiful sentiment, not only
in relation to the new building,
but to the old one, which lie says
should be re>po ted in nnmory of
the people, us being the foui da'ion
upon which the present progress of
the county has been built. Ho referred

said that he had been curious to
know what sort of a court house

eulogized the people of Horry county,
both in the war where he ha.l
been associated with them, and in
every walk of life. His address concluded
the exercises, and the business
of the court proceeded.
The Judge charged the grand jury
and several indictments were handed

Baptists to Itavc a New Clinrclt.
At last arrangements have been
made to begin the erection of a new
church for the Baptist denomination
at Gonwav. The mittor has
been up for several years, but one
thing and another, has delayed it
until now. Architect limit/. of
Wilmington, N C., long since prepared
the plan, and they have
recently been accepted. The bricks
for the building have been purchased
ironi u f Little, and part of them
*ro on the grounds. Tho new church
will be located about tho middlo of
the property, and it may be necessary
to movo the old church somewhat
:>ack, in order to mnke room for the
lew structure. Tho old building
vill be used until the new one has
>een completed, and will then be
hrown away. The contractor has
iot yet been selected, but that
natter will be attonded to before
'ery long, and the work of erecting
he new church will be started. The

f tho Baptists, as well as the Bapist
themselves.
