Buyers of Seed Cotton Have Been Slow In G^ttln* Licenses This Fall, and the Authortles Give Notice. The attention of all buyers of seed cotton in Horry county is called to the following sections of tho act of 1905, requiring license for tho ourpose of tratlicingin seed cotton and providing a peualty for buying it without license. The sections refered to are as follows: Sec. 2. ?The Clerk of tho Court of Common Pleas are authorized and empowered to issuo licences to traffic in seed cotton or unpacked lint cotton by purchase, barter or exchange, within the periol beginning August 15th and ending December 20th, of each year, and within their respective Counties, to such person or rw. ...Ul. ?.,wl j/t*i duiir* as Mian inu owiu UR I I\S, respectively, a written application therefor, the granting of which shall be recommended, in writing, by at least ten landowners within the township wherein said applicant intends to carry on such traflic. Such license shall specify the exact place whereat said-traffic shall be carried on and the period within which such traffic is permitted, and shall continue in force for the period of one year from the date of issue; and for such license, if granted, a fee of not more than five hundred dollars and not les.^ than one dollar, the amount of said license to be fixed by the County Board of Commissioners thereof, shall be paid by the applicant to the County Treasurer for the u;>e of the County. Sec. 3.--All persons in the traflic in seed cotton and unpacked lint cotton are required to keep legibly written in a book, which shall be opened to public inspection, the name of the person or persons from whom they purchase or receive by way of barter, exchange, or traflio of any sort, any seed cotton or unpacked lint cotton, with the number of pounds and date of purchase. Sec. 4.?Any person who shall engage in the traffic in seed cotton or unpacked lint cotton within the perioa beginning August 15th and ending December 20th, of any year, without license, as herein provided, or bet ween the hours of sunset and sunrise, or who shall fail to keep the book ot record, as herein provided, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding one hundred dollaisor imprisonment nr?t. ovfiwliiuf aiv mnnt.ta r<r hu hnfh fino^and imprisonment, at the /isc'rotionfof the Court. Special Referee, td Send your printing to the Herald. t p J13AY NOVEMBER 1 CAPTAIN COLES INJURED. Caught Between l.argc Trucks of Lumber at Plant of Burroughs & Grant Lumber Company. Capt. J. E. Coles, while in the drykill at the plant of Burroughs & Grant Lumber Co\ last week, was caught between a pile of lumber loaded on a truck at the door of the building, and painfully mashed and bruised before assistance could reach him. There is an inclined piano running into the dry-kill, and one of the trucks heavily loaded with lumber got loose and running down ou him unexpectedly caught between the ends of the lumber and the door. As soon as assistance could reach him the truck was forced back, but Mr. Coles in the mean ! time had suffered serious injuries, and that his injuries were no worse under the circumstances was wonder- j ful. A physician was summoned and at last accounts he was doing well and is expected soon to be fully j recovered. Galivauts Perry Items. Boyd and John Floyd were pleasant callers at M.O. Huggins' recently. Misses Virginia Vaught and Claudia Floyd called on Miss Pearl Core last Sunday afternoon Miss Bertie Gore is very sick with fever. We are having a lino school under the management of Prof. A. L. Proctor. A quiet home wedding took place at the of Mr. William E1 wards recently, the contracting parties being Miss Amanda lCdwards and Mr. Willie Wise of Mill-inn the i???v J. N. Proceeds (iocs for (lie Benefit of Willow Sprinirs Church. - One Cake Sold For Over Thirty Dollars -Litrjrc Crowd PresentA delightful and very enjoyable box party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs.Rowell, in the western suburbs of Conway, last Saturday evening, for the benefit of the Wiilow Springs Church The pleasures of tho occasion can never lie forgotten by those fortunate ones who attended It was well attended by the gallant beaux and beautiful belles of the vicinity Jcyousness and happiness ruled supreme, and mirth and gladness marked the passing moments The feature of the occasion was the auction of a cake made by Mrs. Rowell, one of Horry's most ostium ble housekeepers, which was sold jy Misses Alice llowolson and Hello Rowell and which netted sdl.'lo ftir the ( hureh fund Mrs. Rowell charmingly entertained her quests in an easy and graceful manner, and Mr. Rowell was a whole host within himself Tire Friday. Had it not been for the presence of mind of the employees of the Horry Hardware Company there would probably have been a large conflagration in Conway last Friday evening. When lamps were being lighted, one became obstrepnons and refused to buru, and the blaze ran down into the oil. The employees, seeing the trouble, soi/.ed the lump unci attempted to throw it out of the door, but the lump was too hot to hold and it was dropped upon the lloor, and the oil escaping (lowed over the woodwork, carrying the llamos with it. Fortunately, blankets, hammocks, and other things were thought of and the Humes were extinguished after about one hundred dollars worth of damage was done. It evidently ' happaned through carelessness of some body, but no one can say who. Various wild rumors were afloat last week of a serious cutting scape near Pleasant Meadow in Bayboro township, between a Mr. Johnson brother of Commander Johnson and Mr. John Strickland. The story was in substance that the two men fell out over Charlotte Simmons, the same woman who figured hero scvoral times in the trial of Commander Johnson. Johnson wont to a house where he saw Strickland on the piazza sitting beside Charlotte Simmons. He did not like it and one thin# brought on another until ti e men fou#ht, Johnson cuttin# Strickland so seriously that it was rumored he had died. Rumor nlsn 11:11i it 1 hut.
