Again, we c:iuiK>t see that the liual sum mons should appall those who After a long and well spent life, meet at its end with the "Well <lone, good and faithful servant, center thou into thy reward". j?or such as these, the passage from life in the body to eternal Jife io the spirit should be re garded only as a peaceful siulc ing iuto rest ufler a season of trial, trouble aud vexation of .spirit. It <?? this thought alone that, assuages the anguish we ex jierienced oil lust Friday lnoru rfiijf when we learned that our Jife-loug friend. Dr. Daniel L. DeSuussure had .departed this Jife at low 12 of the night pre. <vious. Apparently in full health oil the night that God called him /rora labor unto rest, our de fused friend partook of a jiearty supper, soon afterwards retired to his room, was sud denly taken ill aud died of ?edema of the lungs soou after a brother physician reached his bedside. ?Thus was a noble life cut off, ?Thus au example of a life of probity aud virtue ended, Thus are the poor bereft of a friend, Thus is City, Couuty, State made poorer Thus is the heart of the orphan jnatle uesolate, Thus are those of all who carae Milder the iulluence of his kindly spirit bowed down in sorrow. Vet why mourn we? The iin ?mortal spirit of our friend has trodden that path from whence tio traveler ever returns, and rests in that house, not made Avith hands, eternal in the Heavenp. We sorrow with the nfflicted for we also are nfflicted, but our ?ense of sorrow in our great loss is lightened by a linn and abid ing faith that our parting is not -eternal, but, when life's fitful /ever is o'er, and time cuascs to be, we will ugain meet and know jiim whose untimely demise is .oiily a shadow on the landscape between time and eternity, which having passed, we will behold the glorious efllulgence of that -eternal sun whose beams emu late from tho throne of God. The funeral services were con. ducted from the house on Satur day morning, October 17th; and the remains followed to their last resting place iu the Quaker 4!ometary by an immense con course of friends.
