Bart Sims came to j his death from effects of a gunshot j wound inflicted bv the hands of Ben 1 Stogner and that Loe Stogner was an accessory thereto." The Pension Fond: Columbia, Special. ? Comptroller General Jones has sent out to the clerks of court of various counties in the State the sum of $251,270 as pension money for the confederate veterans and the widows of Confed erate veterans. The appropriation amounts to $250,000, but there was a refund of $1,270 due to the fact that a number of veterans or widows died since last year. There has bseu an increase of 214 pensioners since last year. The number now amounts to 9,275. Of this number, 4.277 r.re women, being about one-half of the total number of pensioners. Those widows draw $110,310. Those vet erans who arc paralyzed or totally disabled come under eln.s A, and re ceive $00 cach. Class B. those who hive lost a leg or arm during the war get $72 each. Mr. K. I win Hill a young man of the Cross Hill section wps killed Inst week in a most hor rible manner. IIo was ploughing in a field some distance from his father's home and it is presumed un hitched his mule from tlu* plough, mounted it and rode toward a spring for water. The mule ran away with the young man. throwing him and dragging him all around the Held and through the woods. The tracks in t ho vicinity show that the animal was headed toward t!i?? spring and also that the body of Mr. Hill was drag ged for a considerable distance. When the mule returned to Mr. Hill's home about dark fears for the young man's safety were immediate ly aroused. A searching party was r.t once organized and at about 11 o'clock young Hill was found nneon se*)us near the field where be had bee* ploughing.
