* ♦ URGE COMPULSORY SCHOOL LAW To the Editor of The News and Courier: That the action of the Cotton Manufacturer’s Association, taken at their re cent meeting in Charleston, in reference to a compulsory school law, may be clearly un derstood, I have been request ed to ask you to publish in full the resolutions adopted, which are as follows: Resolutions: First the As- 0 • sociation renews its recommen dation to the Legislature, that there be passed a general com pulsory education law, requir ing the compulsory education of children under fourteen years of age. Second—That provided there be passed such compul sory education law, this Asso^ ciation feels that there is i o objection to advancing, under proper limitations and restric tions, the a<:e limit of children working in textile mills and other industries to an age to comply with the general com pulsory education law as pass ed. The trustees of the Orange burg Collegiate Institute have placed the school under ,the management of Prof. F. N. K. Bailey, of Edgefield, S. I those personal qualities which have made sueces for him else where.
