SOME CHANGES IN SALESMEN. Moody Sanders, who has been with the J. M. Witsell Supply Co, since opening up some months ago, has resigned his position and will re turn to his farm near Stokes. He has made many friends while in ♦own, who regret to see him leave. Mr. Sanders poscsses the esteem and confidence of his employers who re- luetantly consented to accepted his resignation. W. H. Padgett will succeed him, entering upon the disharge of his new duties next—-Monday. Mr. Padgett has been with C. D. C. Adams for the past three years, and is well known over the county. He is a salesman of ability, and has had several vears experience in the mer- •cantile business. Herman G. Crosby will succeed Mr. Padgett at Mr. Adam’s store. He has also had several years experi ence, having had charge of the store of Mr. Bischoff below Jacksonboro. 1 thought, that the statement ] among boys who now want to get made was sufficient for any one with av * a - v * rom farms, an ounce of sense to see why I took! Sunday morning, Archie Strick land of Williams took Miss Corrie Halford in his buggy to carry her to service at Grace chnrch near town. They deieded, however, not to stop there, but went on to the Methodist parsonage at Smoaks and at 2 o’clock were married by Rev. Lawson. No one was expecting this early termina tion to his attentions, and it was somtime before her parents knew what Trad become of their daugheter. They are now at his home near Wil liams. Mrs Strickland is the oldest daugh ter of Rev and Mrs B F Halford of Walterboro, and has a large circle of friends among whom she is a favor ite. Mr Strickland is a son of 1 E Strickland and holds an important position with fhe Hampton Branchville Rafirouu Company. to write w hat they did last week. It is custom for anyone who collects for others to get pay or commissions, as you please to call it. If Mr Jor dan did hot consent for me to col lect his and Pals chum, why did he not send a self-addressed and stamped envelope, I am sure I w’ould have sent their claim approved back to him and made note of same to Comptroller Geh. Jones. I ’ have always heard that when any one loses a part of ftheir nose their brains become affected, the adage seems to be true in Mr Jordan’s case. After you and the News made the announcement forme that all mana gers to send in duplicates of their per diem and mileage, Mr Jordan was one of the first ones to send his in; surely he was not so illiterate as to think that I could work for noth ing. Here is what it his cost me to get the money for managers and clerks. Eight trips to Walterboro, ten miles going and returning, stationery and postage for four or five letters, and am not through yet as the managers at Ruffin did not get in their report until late. Now Mr Jordan and Pals, if you will have the State to pay me for this extra work I will cheerfully allow you ten cents on the dollar and thank you for kindness. Of course the papers being stolen puts six days of this extra work on the board which the other members left for me to do, as I live near Walterboro, and nothing for them to do as they had signed all the original papers, and they, were stolen: nothing for me to do only to make duplicates, send to Comptroller General; all this done after we had made our official report to aU the officers in Columbia that the Law requires the Board of Com- mi*sioners to do. No Mr Jordan and Pals I do not need ten cents from you as a gift, but would like for you to mak<* state ments correct without malice or bigotism. This is like yours, the saving in expense and grades best suiter] to each crop would be easily had. It has recently been shown by an experienced Chemist and horticul turist that organic matter used in fertilize for nitrogen is almost worthless. In view of the Panama Canal which will give a new impetus to our South Atlantic Cities and manufac turing interest, the demand in the near future for fruits, farm and garden products will be greatly in creased. There was a splendid attendance of teachers present and an interesting and in structive program was rendered. The meeting was called to order by Prof. L S Betty, Pres, and opened with prayer by Rev. H J Cauthen, after which the association sang America. This was followed by an especially interesting address by Rev Cauthen. Mr Cauthen spoke of the value of education and the result possible to be accomplished by edu cated men and women. Speaking to teachers, he spoke as one who had been “at both ends of the switch.” Prof. L S Betty then delivered an inaugural address. In the course of his remarks, Prof. Betty urged the teachers to do more thorough work in the fourth and fifth grades in their schools. The next number on the program was an address by W W Smoak, Jr. who favored conpulsory education. He was followed by a solo, “Face to Face,” sang by Miss Edna Mc- Teer, accompanied by Mrs N G Mor- rall at the organ. Rev F 0 S Curtis dismissed the meeting.
