Miss Pennington is a 1970 graduate of Gray Court-Owings High School. She is a student at Ste?anella Beauty College in Laurens. Airman Reynolds is a 1968 graduate of Clinton High and attended Duke University. He is presently located with the Air Force in DaNang, Vietnam. WL CARNIVAL Ml Presses Musgrove Street Clinton, S. C. Miss Outz Marries James Hoke Askew Miss Black Honored Miss Amy Black, May bride- elect, was honored last Friday afternoon in Spartanburg. Mrs. Robert Stoddard and daughter Miss Louise Stoddard were hosts to the Youth Fellowship group of the First Presbyter ian Church of Spartanburg as they showered Miss Black with gifts. She is their adult advisor. Upon arrival, Amy was pre sented a corsage of sweetheart roses. The entrance hall was decorated with a silver con tainer of pink roses and the liv ing room and dining room were also decorated with roses, sweet William, shasta daisies and other spring flowers. Guests were invited into the dining room for refreshments of sandwiches, chips and dip, mints, nuts and cheese straws, which were served buf fet style. Mrs. Wessley Boyd assisted by serving punch. The gifts were displayed under a lovely pink umbrella circled with daisies. Also attending from Clinton were Miss Black’s grandmo ther, Mrs. JamesFerdinandJa- cobs, Sr. and her aunt, Mrs. Williams Brooks Owens. * * * Bride-elect Entertained Miss Gayle Wilhite ofMable- ton, Ga., fiancee of Carroll Duckett Copeland honored with a luncheon on Saturday, May 9 at the home of Mrs. Barbara Harris Smith in Birmingham, Ala. White daisies centered the bride-elect’s table and mixed flowers were used elsewhere. A luncheon plate and parfait were served. Miss Wilhite was presented a silver candle snuffer by the hostess. Mrs. Health Copeland, the groom elect’s mother and Mrs. Doyle Wilhite of Mable- ton, Ga. attended the delightful affair. * * * Newcomers Give Birthday Party The Clinton Newcomers gave their monthly birthday party for Cottage 26-A atWhit- ten Village on Monday evening, May 4th. Records, dancing, and games were enjoyed, and there was one birthday celebrated. Hostesses for the evening were Lib Berkland, Carol Smith, and Barbara Ward. Myr tle Wesson was in charge of fa vors. The Reverend Dr. Roberts. Cooper and the Reverend Albert Louis Askew, brother of the groom, officiated at the wedding of Miss Jane Darken Outz and James Hoke Askew at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at First Bap tist Church, Laurens, S.C. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Marett Larkin Outz of Maddens Community, Laurens, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Elwin Askew of Blanchard Street, Pine Mountain, Georgia. Miss Laura Rebecca Outz of Laurens was her sister’s maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Mrs. James Martin Mitchell, Jr. of Columbia, Miss Charlotte Sue Marett, cousin of the bride, of Anderson and Athens and Miss Elaine Martin of Laurens. The bridegroom's father was best man. Ushering were James Elerson of Columbus, Georgia, John Marett Outz, brother of the bride, of Laurens and At hens, Robert Michael Edwards, cousin of the bride, of Union, and Ronald R. Rich of Middle- boro, Kentucky. Musicians were Mrs. Ronald R. Richof Middleboro, Kentucky and Joseph Greer of Laurens. The bride chose for her wed ding a gown of bridal satin fea turing a Victorian neck design and ornamented with re embroidered alencon lace trim med in seed pearls. The de tachable train was held at the neckline and her veil fell from a cluster of lace petals edged in pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses and daises and a white Bible presented by Y.W. A.’s of the church. The bridal attendants wore formal dresses of casino green serrano with wide lace front panels and inverted pleats at the back. They wore matching headpieces of tulle centered with a taffeta bow and carried bouquets of daises. Following the ceremony the bride’s parents entertained at a reception in the church so cial hall for the bridal couple and their wedding guests. Upon their return from a honeymoon the couple will re side in Pine Mountain. The bride is a graduate of Carson-Newman College and Southwestern Baptist Theolo gical Seminary in Fort Wurth. She has been employed by the Southern Baptist Convention at the Missionary Orientation Center in Pine Mountian. She plans to teach in the Harris County public schools this fall. Mr. Askew is a graduate of South Georgia School of Tech nology in Americus and attend ed Washburn University in To peka, Kansas. He has comple ted a tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force having served one year in Korea. He is employed in the accounting division at Callaway Gardens, Pine Moun tain. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Elwin Askew, parents of the bride groom entertained at a re hearsal dinner on Saturday evening , May 9, at the Cecil Wilson House in Clinton. * * * Mr. White Entertained R ichard White was honored on his birthday with a party at the Bel Air Steak House in Laurens. Mr. and Mrs. Allen White were hosts to twenty guests at the dinner for their brother. Mrs. Grace Connor, program chairman, introduced Claire Duncan, soprano, and Carole Perry, contralto, who did sev eral selections from musicals and light operas. She then pre sented Mr. Bob Smith, director of music at Clinton HighSchool. Under his able direction a wood wind quintet composed of Jan Meadors, Kathy Barnes, Kathy Ficklin, Carol Dailey, and Davy Sanders, played several numbers arranged especially for woodwinds. The club was especially interested in hearing these young performers as it awards each year a scholarship to a member of the high school band to one of the band camps held each summer. Mrs. Alan Cook, presi dent, was in charge of the busi ness session that followed the program. She and Mrs. Hender son Pitts gave reports on the convention of the South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs, held in Greenville, April 16 and 17 Mrs. G. V. Tibbitts also at tended the convention. The Clin ton Music Club claimed two a- wards at t:io state meeting: one, for excellence in “Orientation and Leadership Training” and the other for its program and activity during American Music Week. Enthusiastic reports of the Spring Fine Arts Festival, just held, were brought by Mrs. Charles Gaines and Mrs. Lewis Hay. Many successes were noted, but the club agreed that the festival should be expanded in the future to involve more clubs and a wider variety of activities for adults. The hostesses for the after noon, Mrs. Nene Workman and Mrs. R. M. Fuller, served ice cream punch, and Impmade cake, from a tea table center ed with a lovely arrangement of roses from Mrs. Workman's garden. * * * WELLS Mr. and Mrs. Rick Wells of Laurinburg, N.C. announce the birth of a daughter, Eliott Lo retta on May 10 at Scotland County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wells is the former Francine Loretta Smith, daugh ter of Mrs. Horace C. Smith of Florida Street, Clinton, The baby was named for both Mrs. Wells and the grandmother, Mrs. Smith. Bouknight-Weir Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alton Bouknight, Pinewood Avenue, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathy Lee, to William Arthur Weir, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Silas Weir, 608 Cedar Street. Kathy is the granddaughter of Mrs. Sumter Everette Mar tin and the late Mr. Martin of Gray Court and Mr. Burley Alton Bouknight and the late Mamie Boozer Bouknight of Newberry. She is presently a junior at Columbia College ma joring in special education. Bill is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Howard, Stonewall Street and Mrs. John Franklin Weir and the late Mr. Weir, 401 West Pitts Street. He is presently employed in Columbia by Pettit Construction Company. Greenwood is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hos pital. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cape and Mike and Kay Grubbs of Rte. 1, Clinton recently visited For bidden Caverns, near the Great Smoky Mountains, to view the many natural formations in the cave. Forbidden Caverns, a short drive from Gatlinburg and Sevierville, Tenn., was opened last year after two years of excavating and construction work, in the initial season, over 52,000 visitors saw the caverns. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Thurston R.
