Musicians
Perform For
Music Club
A group of talented high
school musicians presented the
program for the Clinton Music
Club last Wednesday after
noon in the educational build
ing of the First BapitstChurch.
Mrs. Grace Connor, program
chairman, introduced Claire
Duncan, soprano, and Carole
Perry, contralto, who did sev
eral selections from musicals
and light operas. She then pre
sented Mr. Bob Smith, director
of music at Clinton HighSchool.
Under his able direction a wood
wind quintet composed of Jan
Meadors, Kathy Barnes, Kathy
Ficklin, Carol Dailey, and Davy
Sanders, played several
numbers arranged especially
for woodwinds. The club was
especially interested in hearing
these young performers as it
awards each year a scholarship
to a member of the high school
band to one of the band camps
held each summer.
Mrs. Alan Cook, presi
dent, was in charge of the busi
ness session that followed the
program. She and Mrs. Hender
son Pitts gave reports on the
convention of the South Carolina
Federation of Music Clubs, held
in Greenville, April 16 and 17
Mrs. G. V. Tibbitts also at
tended the convention. The Clin
ton Music Club claimed two a-
wards at t:io state meeting: one,
for excellence in “Orientation
and Leadership Training” and
the other for its program and
activity during American Music
Week.
Enthusiastic reports of the
Spring Fine Arts Festival, just
held, were brought by Mrs.
Charles Gaines and Mrs. Lewis
Hay. Many successes were
noted, but the club agreed that
the festival should be expanded
in the future to involve more
clubs and a wider variety of
activities for adults.
The hostesses for the after
noon, Mrs. Nene Workman and
Mrs. R. M. Fuller, served ice
cream punch, and Impmade
cake, from a tea table center
ed with a lovely arrangement of
roses from Mrs. Workman's
