Cason Luther “Luke” Eugene Cason Jr., 71, of 206 Calvert Ave., died Friday. He was a native of Rayle, Ga., and lived in Clinton since 1938. He was a son of the late Luther Eugene Cason Sr. and Annie L. Faver Cason. He was a retired salesman for Conwood Corp. He was a member of CampbeU Lodge 44 and was a charter member of Clinton Exchange Club. He was a member and honorary deacon of the First Baptist Church where he was formerly superintendent of the adult Sunday School De partment, director of Training Union and teacher of Sunday School. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Wright Cason; a daughter, Mrs. Roslyn C. Martin of Clin ton; a son, Robert L. Cason of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Reba C. Wansley of Iva and Mrs. Daisy M 7. C. Turner of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Dr. Frank I. Cason of Ludowici, Ga., and Charles F. Cason of Rayle; and seven grand children. Funeral services were held Sunday at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Rosemont Ceme tery. The family requests that any memorials be made to the build ing fund of First Baptist Church. L R. Turner Luther “Red” Turner, 51, of 1002 N. Sloan St., died Thursday. He was a native of Laurens County, son of Mrs. Minnie Thrift Turner of Lexington and the late Richard Gist Turner Sr. He was a former employe of Clinton Mills, a Baptist, a member of the American Legion andaWorld War H veteran. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Sue Rucker Turner; two daughters, Mrs. J. W, Burke of Greenville and Miss Dana Turner of the home; a sister, Mrs. Ar thur Lawson of Clinton; three brothers, Guy Turner of Co lumbia and Richard and Dorsey Turner of Clinton; and two grand sons. Funeral services were held Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. W. M George JOANNA - William Marvin George, 71, of Joanna, died in Columbia Sunday. He was a native of Mobile, Ala., a son of the late D. M. and Martha George. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Hyder George; three sons, Marvin George of Laurens and Joseph and Ralph George of Joanna; five daughters, Mrs. Kathryne Tullis of Germany, Mrs. Mary Jenkins of Gray Court, Mrs. Jessie Lanier of Clinton, Mrs. Geraldine Fountain of Jo anna and Mrs. Shirley Roberts of Clinton; and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Kennedy Mortuary with burial in Laurens Memory ‘Gardens. C. H. Smith, Sr. Clyde H. Smith Sr., 69, of Rt. 2, Columbia highway, died Friday. He was a native of Saluda County, but had lived in Clinton since 1931. He was a son of the late J. P. and Maude Griffith Smith. He was yard and poultry supervisor at Whitten Village and a member of Broad Street Metho dist Church and Palmetto Ma sonic Lodge 44. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Simmons Smith; two sons, Clyde H. Smith Jr. of Whitmire and William T. Smith of Washing ton, D. C.; two daughters, Mrs. Talmadge Simmons andMrs. He len Milam of Clinton; three sis ters, Mrs. R. L. Boatwright of Garfield, Ga., Mrs. Robert Tur ner and Mrs. W. E. Wilson of Clinton; a brother, Guy G. Smith of Clinton; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, at the BroadStreet United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. W. M. Gardner PELZER - William M. “Bill” Gardner, 49, of Rt. 2, Pelzer, died Wednesday. A native of Greenwood, he was a veteran of World War n and worked for Orders Tile Co. of Greenville. He was also a Green ville News carrier in West Pel zer. He was a member of David son Street Baptist Church at Clinton and a member of Clinton Masonic Lodge 44. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Cole Gardner; a son, Dale Gardner of Charlotte, N. C.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Cynthia Kelly of Mauldin and Miss Pearl Ann Allen of the home; two step sons, John W. .and' George T. Allen of the home; a brother, Harold Gardner of Joanna; a sis ter, Mrs. Evelyn Byars of J9anna; and a granddaughter. Mrs. Hunter Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Hunter, 70, who died in Philadelphia, Pa., Wednesday, widow of Willie Hunter, were held Sunday at AntiochA.M.E. Church. Burial was in the church ceme tery. She was a native of Laurens County, a daughter of the late Betty and Henry Craig. Surviving are a son, Leroy Hunter of Philadelphia; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Shands and Mrs. Sarah Dixon of Phila delphia; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Textile Meeting Set For Friday On PC Campus The Southern Textile Associa tion’s South Carolina Division will hold its annual spring meet ing at Presbyterian College’s Greenville Hall in Clinton on April 24. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tom Parker, Director of the South Carolina Technical Edu cation Centers, and Dr. Ben Glo ver, consultant for the State Com mittee on Technical Education, will address the more than 300 textile leaders expected to attend. Carl Rogers, Plant Manager of Clinton Mills’ Bailey Plant, will preside. Reeves Brothers and Alice Manufacturing Company will serve as host companies. Rhyne Speaker At Kiwanis Meet Carson Rhyne, a senior at Presbyterian College, will be guest speaker tonight at the re gular meeting of the Clinton Ki wanis Club. The dinner meeting will start at 7 p.m. atMaryMus- grove Hotel. Rhyne is a member of the White House - appointed Com mittee on Youth for Laurens County. Other special guests will in clude the Clinton High School Key Club and members of the Kiwanis basketball team.
