While many of the students are working on the scenery, others are searching for necessary props. The cast, chorus, and band have been prac ticing ardently each night for several weeks. Although the practices have been long and dif ficult, we are striving, under the superb direction of Mrs. Rose mary Johnson, to make this pro duction equal to, or even better than, our previous productions of “Brigadoon” and “My Fair Lady.” Dr. Gettys' Book Published In Bible Study Dr. Jnseph M. Gettys, pro fessor i if religion at Presbyterian College, is the author of one of three books to be used in the Covenant Life Curriculum's Adult Bible Study for 1970. The book, with accompanying teacher's guide, is just off the press under the title ' Living the Gospel.” It is a study of 1 Peter and is the most recent of a num ber of study guides prepared by Dr. Gettys. The author has been a member of the PC faculty since 1956. He spent seven of these years, 1962- 69 as academic dean while con tinuing his interest in classroom teaching and in writing. Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Chib To Meet Greenwood Mills Quarter Cen tury Club will induct 77 new mem bers Sunday during a combined Quarter Century Club Recogni tion and Family Day at each of the company’s 16 plants, service de partment and information center. The club, organized in each of these plants, recognizes em ployes who have 25 or more years of continuous service with Green wood Mills. This 23rd annual meeting of the club will depart from pre vious programs and be held in the various locations from 2 until 5 p.m. There will be tours, entertain ment by employes and others, displays of fabrics and garments. A. SHOUSE Shady Grove 4-H Club held their regular April meetingApril 15 at 4 p.m. Meeting was called to order by president JoannSum- mers. After the pledge, business was discussed. The group decid ed to have a picnic following the May meeting, May 20. The lesson was given on “4-H Clean- Up Month”. .Slides were shown showing need for clean-up in var ious places in Laurens County. The club voted to meet Saturday, May 9 at the club house to clean up the grounds. Achievement for girls was ob served. Girls receiving awards for a project included Ann Cul len, a blue ribbon on a clothes bag; Donna Franklin a blue rib bon on an apron; Kathy Berry a blue ribbon on cookies and a blue ribbon on a booklet on home management. Also JoanneSummers received a blue ribbon on a dress she de signed and made; Maxine Spivey was awarded a blue ribbon on a skirt she made and a red rib bon on an exhibit on food; Mar gie Spivey received a blue rib bon on Brownies she baked and a red ribbon on a skirt. Girls who received blue rib bons on their exhibits will be invited to present their exhibits at the County Achievement Pro gram. Spring Council of Home Exten sion Homemakers met at Laurens Wednesday afternoon at 3:30. A number from the Shady Grove Club attended. Mrs. N. A.Shouse gave the County report on family life. Shady Grove Club invited the Fall Council Meeting to be held with Shady Grove as hostess. Birmingham Salutes Thornley Many tributes have been paid to Fant H. Thornley, 61, who died April 12 at his home in Birming ham, Ala. The brother of Mrs. Taylor Martin of Clinton, he had been director of the Birmingham Public Library since 1953. The Birmingham News said editorially, “It could not have been just coincidence that Bir mingham Library’s circulation is greater than any comparable li brary in the Southeast. Thorn- ley’s constant advocacy of an ex panded library to care for more patrons was a personal crusade, matched, perhaps, only by his love of literature and the hc^e that he could inspire others to under stand the world and its people better through the printed word. “Thornley was an exceptional and a dedicated man. Birmingham and its people have been fortu nate for his being among us.” The Birmingham Post-Herald wrote: the library’s “policies during the years of Mr. Thorn- ley’s administratioo have been constantly modernized and completely relevant totbedianf ing needs of library patrons.
