Open fires in every room pro vided cozy comfort on a chilly rainy day. In spite of the rain, Mrs. Brockenbrough’s yard look ed bright with azaleas, dogwoods, and other spring blooms. After an appetizer in the liv- ingroom, the ladies enjoyed the main course at the diningroom table after which coffee was serv ed in the livingroom. High School Scholars Visit PC High school junior class scho lars and their guidance counse lors from throughoutSouthCaro- lina will come to Presbyterian College next Tuesday for the first annual PC Junior Fellows pro gram. More than 200 students from 102 schools have been designated as Junior Fellows on the basis of having the top men’s and wo men’s average in their class. They have been invited to the PC campus from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to learn more about col lege opportunities and to attend the outdoor Folk Festival. The schedule that day will open with registration in Richardson Science Hall, followed by a gen eral orientation session con ducted by PC administrators and students, and then special inter est sessions with faculty mem bers. After campus tours, the visitors will join the PC student body for its annual picnic and Folk Festival held on the campus green as part of the two-week Festival of Arts. The campus visit is only part of the PC Junior Fellows program. Each nominee will re ceive a Presbyterian College Junior Academic Achievement citation and minimum scho larship grant at his school’s awards day program, and will be considered for PC’s broader scholarship program. J. * * * Four students from Clinton County High Schools attended the Eighth Annual Yearbook Seminar at Newberry College onSaturday, April 18. The day-long meeting sponsor ed jointly by Newberry College and Paragon Press, school year book publishers, gave high schoolers a chance to discuss copywriting, layout, and photo graphy with the Seminar’s lead ers. As Topic For Meeting A public meeting will be held Thursday night at 7:30p.m. atthe City Hall in Laurens for all peo ple who are interested in a pri vate school, according to an an nouncement made by Jim Sharp- ton, chairman of the board of the Henry Laurens Academy. Mr. Sharpton said, "The Aca demy was incorporated in Feb ruary as a non-profit educational institution. It was founded by a group of interested people not for the purpose of competing with our public system but for the purpose of establishing a school with fewer students in each class room, thereby allowing the teach er to give more individual in struction. It would be a school that will not be controlled by the edicts of the federal government but by the parents of the stu dents. “The school will be located on Moreland Ave., Laurens. We ex pect to begin operation in Sept ember with grades 1 through 8. We will have qualified teachers with a degree and South Caro lina teachers’ certificate. We will closely follow the curricu lum of the public schools.
