MOON SINGING GROUP MEETS The Musical Religious Concert held its monthly meeting on July 20 at Vaughnville Baptist Church in Chappells. After the devotion and busi ness session the member choirs sang. Eleven choirs were repre sented. James Motes is the pre sident and Mrs. ElnoraSummers is secretary. The September meeting will be held at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. MEN’S DAY Men’s Day was observed at Be thel Baptist Church Cross Hill on Sunday. The men were in charge of all services beginning with the Sunday School. Rev. W. E. Byrd the host pas tor gave the welcome and Edward Gilliam responded. The guest speaker, Rev. Peter Moon Sr. used “Are You Provid ing A Godly Father" as a sub ject. After the usual order of service, Rev. Byrd delivered the morning message. Communion was given and refreshments were served. John A. McMorris is chairman and W. E. Fuller is church secretary. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Miss Ethel Louise Calhoun ce lebrated her 11 birthday recently at the home of her aunt Mrs. Mamie C. Walker. About 20 friends came to join in the ce lebration. After games and during re freshment time the guest sang, “Happy Birthday to Ethel.” COMMUNITY CLUB The Community Club at which Mrs. Daisy Hearst is president met on Monday night with Mrs. Elnora Summers. The living room was decorated with summer flowers. After a short business session the club adjourned their monthly meeting until September. HOSPITALIZED - ( Mrs. Lee R. Lindsay Gilliam is a patient at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, S. C. She entered on Saturday. We are praying for her a speedy and complete recovery. PASTORS AID CLUB The Pastor’s Aid Club met on Sunday evening at the home of Mrs. Laura Calhoun. The mem bers were welcomed by the hos tess in a setting of lovely flow ers to her spacious home off Highway 1-26. The president Mrs. Sallie L. Finney presided over the busi ness session, after a devotional period. The hostess served a very tasty refreshment during the social hour. Miss Annie M. CheekS'Thanked the hostess. Mrs. Eunice Fuller will enter tain the, September meeting at her home on South Bell Street. Miss Aurelia Pyles has return ed after visiting her brother and sisters in Washington, D.C. She went especially to visit her bro ther, Putsy Pyles who is ill. Mrs. Georgianna Jeter has re turned to the city after a four months stay in Freeport, N.Y. While there, she underwent treat ment at Meadowbrook Hospital. Mrs. Brunell D. Wiggins and daughter, Lisa, of Savannah, Ga., spent a while in the city with her brother, Sam Williams and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Suber and daughter, Lavetta and Miss Thelma Darbins accompanied their sister on her return home to Savannah, Ga. While in the port city they pur chased salt water fish directly from the boat. Mrs. Sara Rice who had gone to Brooklyn, N.Y. on a visit was called back to the city due to the death of a relative. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rice of Brooklyn accom- panied’her home. Mr. James Robert Richey, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Richey and family of Washington, D. C. spent the past weekend with their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Luvenia Richey and other relatives. Miss Barbara Evans and room mate, Mrs. Ethel Bolden, students at Voohees College spent the weekend with Barbara’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenza Evans. Jesse Miller of Washington, D. C. is spending some time with his mother, Mrs. Nancy Fulmer and other relatives. Michael Darbins is enrolled at Piedmont Tec, Greenwood in a college preparatory course. They came especailly to attend the 100th anniversary of Piedmont Presbyterian Church. The community has been sad dened by several deaths recent ly.
