Lydia Milk News Mrs. Fraaks Visits Her Barents * % a Cancer Crusade Chairman for S. C. Tells of Purposes The Cancer Crusade has a two-fold purpose, raising funds and educating the people, the state Crusade chairman told persons attending the annual educational banquet of the county chapter' of the Ameri can Cancer Society here recent ly at Hotel Mary Musgrove. Maj. Gen. Frank S. Bowen, (U. S. Army-Retired) of Co lumbia, said money is needed for research, clinics, and ser vices. He said the fact that 1,- 300,000 cured cancer patients are walking the streets was due in part to educating the public by volunteers of the seven dan ger signals of cancer. “We have the opportunity to present our fellow citizens the troth about cancer. Cancer is a killer if neglected," he said. Dr. C. E. Barnes, president of the county chapter, presided at the banquet. State'Sen. Wil liam C. Dobbins introduced the speaker. Mrs. Sarah D. DeLoach, coun ty commander, spoke briefly of the local work of the chapter. She said the major portion of the fund spent in the county was to provide* transportation for patients to the eight clinics in the state. This year 71 coun ty. patients have received aid from the chapter. Get Safe Driving Awards Safe driving awards are being presented to Algie Abrams of Joanna, and Mary Bell Davis of Route 3, sional Women’s Club. The presentation was made at chapel service at Clinton High School, where both are students, on April 23. PC Student Body Homes Hew Officers Henry Levett of Kingstree is the newly elected president of the Presbyterian College student body. Ht was named in campus-wide balloting to succeed Gary Mike Smith of Garden City, N. Y., as head of the PC student govern ment for the coming year. Lo vett, a rising senior majoring in history, served as secretary of the student body during the past year. The new vice-president is Lew is Russell Nelson of Thomson, p Ga., and David G. Davies, Jr., of Panama City, Fla., serves as the third senior representa tive on the student council. The elections also tapped these other representatives to the stu dent governing body for the up coming 190046 session: Junior class—Bob Herlong of Manning, Jim Johnson of Geor- gianna, Ala. ,and Bob Warren of Allendale; Sophomore class David Berry of Union, and' Bill Bucheit of Spartanburg. Robertson, mis sionary to India, presently on furlough, will speak at the Sun day evening worship service at the Lydia Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev. Robertson, whose home is in California, is touring the states speaking and showing slides of the work in India at various churches. The Lydia church was fortun ate enough to be one of the churches. Rev. Roscoe Bryan, pastor of the host church, extends a cor. dial invitation to the public to attend the service. WITH THE SICK Mrs. Ithiel Harvey returned to her home Saturday after several weeks illness and leg surgery at Bailey Memorial Hospital and Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood. Mrs. Mamie Burnett is ill at her home. Mrs. J. W. Fuller returned home Friday from Bailey Me morial Hospital. LYDIA BAPTIST CHUBCH NEWS The Girls Auxiliaries will ob serve Focus Week beginning Sunday morning and continuing through Saturday with various activities during the weak. Sunday morning the Interme diates will serve as ushers for the worship service and the Juniors win render special sing ing. The girts will hold their regu lar meetings, do their commun ity work and deliver the church bulletins to several shut-ins. On Thursday evening a recep tion will be held in the church social hall for the girls, their mothers nad grandmothers. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT GAINES Mr .and Mrs. Wayne Gaines of Kinards, anounce the birth of a son, Anthony Carlton, on April 28 at the Prosperity Clinic in Prosperity. Mrs. Gaines is the former Miss Paula Shelnut formerly of Lydia.
