Afternoon Tea Honors Miss Todd, June-Bride-Elect Mrs. / R. E. Ferguson and Mrs. R. E. Ferguson, Jr., en tertained for Miss Joanne Todd, who is to be married June 27 at the Associate Re formed Presbyterian Church, with a seated tea last Saturday afternoon at Mrs. R. E. Fergu son, Jr.’s new borne on Walnut Street. Greeting the guests at the door were the hostesses, the bride-elect and her mother, Mrs. Hubert Todd; the bride groom elect’s mother, Mrs. M. C. Stewart, and Mrs. Bobby Jones, sister of the bride. Miss Todd was presented a corsage of gardenias for the occasion. Summer roses were arranged throughout the re ceiving rooms, and in the din ing room a large arrangement of pink roses and baby-breath in a silver tureen centered the table, covered with a cut- work linen cloth. Winner of high score prize was a club visitor, Mrs. Bailey Dixon, and Mrs. Joe Cutchin of Charlottesville, Va., also was remembered with a gift. During the afternoon a salad course was served. Supper-Bridge Club Feted Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Roberts entertained their supper-bridge club last Saturday night, with dinner at Vernon’s and bridge afterwards pt their home. Arrangements of Shasta dais ies were used in the living and dining rooms. Mrs. Gene John son was high score winner for the women, and Barry Wingard for the men. Guests of the club were Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Hamil ton. Mrs. Neal Honors Clinton Newcomer Mrs. James E. Neal invited a group of friends and neigh bors to an informal gathering at her home on the Jacobs Highway Tuesday morning to meet Mrs. Joe Crockett, who recently moved to Clinton. The hostess’ home was dec orated with summer flowers, and light morning refresh ments were served. Mrs. Neal was assisted by Mrs. George Brockenbrough, Jr., and Mrs. Edward Campbell. Doctors and Wives In Dinner Meet The Third District Medical dinner was held last Tuesday night at the Hotel Mary Mus- grove with about 60 doctors and their wives from Laurens, New berry, Greenwood, Abbeville and McCormick counties attending. Arrangements of roses and mixed summer flowers were used on the dinner tables lighted with candies in hurricane lamps. Silver containers held sprays of flowers In other parts of the din ing room. Local doctors and their wives assisting in entertaining the guests from other towns were Dr. and Mrs. E. N. Sullivan, Dr. and Mrs. James Macdonald, Dr. and Mrs. D. O. Rhame, Dr. and Mrs. James L. Bowen Calvary Baptist Church, Cov ington, Ga., formed the appro priate setting on Saturday for n i n g for the seven-thirty the 7:30 p. m. ceremony in which Miss Billie Sue Duvall, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. William Godfrey Duvall, became the bride of William Henry Bowen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Samuel Bowen. The Rev. Cart Cassidy, pastor, officiated at the double-ring nuptials. Mrs. Mickey Johnson, organ ist, rendered a program of wedding music. Wayne Bowen, brother of the groom, was best man. Miss Peggy Allen, maid of honor, wore a yellow polished cotton sheath with matching jacket and pumps. Her corsage was of white carnations. The bride wore a white MRS. JAMES LELAND YOUNG, JR. MARRIED IN CHURCH RITES Miss Margaret McFarland Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mlnter MacFarland Brown of Laurens, became the bride of James Leland Young, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Leland Young of 501 Calvert Avenue at 5:30 p. m., June 6, at the First Methodist Church in Laurens. The Rev. J. H. Martin and the Rev. A. C. Reed of Lugoff, brother-in-law of the groom, officiated. Wedding music was presented by Mrs. John K. Taylor, organ ist, and Troy Cobb of Greenville, soloist. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a gown of silk peau de sole adorned with hand-clipped alencon lace and fashioned with a sabrina neck line, fitted bodice and long sleeves coming to a call a lily point. Her bell skirt was gather ed into a bustle in the back, fall ing into a wide chapel train. Her veil of silk illusion was held in place by a pillbox of net and lace, trimmed with seed pearls. The bride carried a cascade of gar denias centered with an orchid. Miss Judy Brown, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, She wore an informal length dress of jonquil yellow georgette and satin and a matching jonquil yellow flowered headpiece. Her bouquet was a cascade of yellow roses. Bridesmaids were: Miss Jane Brown, sister of the bride; Miss Leanna Young, sister of the bridegroom; Miss C a r o U n e Teague of Laurens; and Miss Cindy Rhame of Camden. They wore dresses identical to that of sheath with matching bolero in waffle pique, and carried a white Bible topped with white carnations interspersed with maline puffs, centered with miniature white wedding bells, and showered with valley lilies aid white satin streamers. At the conclusion of the cere mony, the newlyweds greeted friends in the vestibule of the church. Upon thier return from a brief honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Bowen will be at home to friends at 212 North Mill Street. Mr. Duvall is a former resi dent of this city. the maid of honor and carried cascades of shasta chrysanthe mums. The bridegroom had as his best man his father. Usher- groomsmen were: Roger H. Brown, cousin of the bride ; John Elchelberger of Clinton ; Wallace Boyd of Clinton, and Charleston, and Charles Jones of Marion. The bride was graduated from Coker College in 1963 and is em ployed by St. John’s School, Charleston. A 1963 graduate of Davidson College, the bride groom is a student at the Medi cal College of South Carolina. B&PWClubln June Meeting The Clinton Business and Pro fessional Women’s Club met Tuesday evening, June 9, at the Mary Musgrove Hotel, with Mrs. P. M. Pitts, president, presiding. The Invocation was given by Mrs. Annie Belle Brown. Follow ing supper Mrs. Marion Lawson, program chairman, presented a very informative program of ori entation, outlining the duties and responsibilities of each officer and committee chairman. The members who attended the annual state convention in Greenvile in May reported on the meeting. Mrs. Margaret Lockett, scrapbook chairman, announced the two awards presented to the Clinton club at the convention: first place for best news picture in a weekly newspaper, and hon orable mention for best news story. Mrs. Robert Johnson, vice- president, presented the propos ed legislative platform for the South Carolina Federation of Business and Profesional Wom en’s Clubs for 1964-1965, and the club voted to endorse each item on this platform. Mrs. Johnson also reported on the meeting of the Executive Board which she attended in Columbia on May 23. Broad Street Installs New WSCS Officers New officers of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service at Broad Street Methodist Church were installed at special ser vice at the June meeting of the group at the the church. The Rev. A. S. Harvey presid ed over the installation. Officers for the coming year are: Mrs. D. A. Yarborough, presi dent; Mrs. Raymond Pitts, vice- president; Mrs. L. S. Harold Fleming Harris of Columbia. Miss Davis is a senior at Winthrop College and will receive a B. A. degree in sociology in January. Mr. Harris was graduated from Wofford College In 1961.
