Thursday, June 15,1961 THE CLINTON CHRONICLE 11 CITY RECREATION NEWS The Joanna Little Boys are itill undefeated. They have a string of 12 straight victories. They started the second half by winning from the TJ«n« and Exchange teams. The Lions Club had Joanna 2-1 going Into the last Inning and with one away and two on base John Henry Lott of Joanna, drove a long home run over the score- board in center Held. This made six home runs for John Henry. This is only one short of the park record. Lott has eight more games in which to break the rec ord. This is only one home run short of the park record which is held by William Archie, for merly of Thornwell Orphanage, but now pitching for Clinton Mill where he is continuing to hit home runs. Whitmire is on top by one game in the Palmetto League, with six wins and one loss. Bailey and Joannp are only one game out of first place, with five wins and two losses each. The Palmetto race will probably be closer this summer than It has in several years. Everybody is proud of the new fence around the Palmetto base ball diamond. This is something that has been needed for years. The Recreation Commision wants to thank the Kiwanis Club for buying the fence, Lydia Mill for donating the pipe to bold the fence up, and the C and L Con crete Co. for giving the concrete that holds the pipe in the ground, and thanks to Billy Pitts for hav ing the holes dug to put the pipe in. Also thanks especially to Clyde Trammell and Mr. Grady of Lydia Mill for cutting and threading the pipe for this fence. The girls’ softball schedule started this week. Our girls went to Whitmire Tuesday. They have two teams of giris. The older girls are fourteen and fifteen year olds and the younger group are eleven, twelve and thirteen year olds. Our giris play in the Little League park Friday afternoon, with a double-header starting at 3:30 p. m. The tennis program is progres sing nicely. Boys come one day and girls the next. If anyone of school age desires to Join this program see Ed Caviness. Since we have three re-plays in the Small Fry League there will be no standings for them this week. We hope to have the stand ings in next week’s paper.
