Glasgow, recently of Clinton, but now rodents of Columbia, will be the herald to the May Queen in the annual May day festival which is to be held on Saturday a/temoon, May 17th. In addition to announcing the May Queen and her court, Mias Glas gow will be the herald in the pageant, “Robin Hood," which is to be pre sented at the festival, and will read proclanuitions at the beginning and the end of the play. Miss Glasgow has won quite a name for herself at Wil son college this year through her un usual riding ability. She has been manager of the W’ilson riding club and was recently chairman of its first an nual horse show'. Canvam To Be Made May 23rd for Thorn- well Orphaimge. The Chamber of Commerce held its May meeting Tuesday evening in the club rooms and was presided over by President J. F. Jacobs, Sr. The president, announced the club's standing committees for the year as recently appointed, outlined their sug gested duties, and asked a united spirit of co-operation on the part of- each individual member in successful ly carrying forth the year’s work. A tentative budget needed for the activi ties of the various committees wa.s presented and, after its consideration, was unanimously approved as suggest ed by Mr. Jacobs. It was called to the club’s attention that the city-wide canvass recently approved in the interest of the Thonj- well orphanage, would be made on Fri day, .May 23rd. Details of the cam paign were placed in charge of the moral welfare committee. The city will be divided and a large contingent T)f men and women canvassers enlist ed to make a strong appeal .for the orphanage in the way of cash contri butions, merchandise, etc. 'The idea was recently endorsed by the organi zation and will In* the first concerterl effort to cover the city thoroughly in the 'interest of his well known and highly appreciated institution of the conirnunity. A goal of $1,1)00 has been set by the coipmjttce in charge of the drive.
