BALL IN A MAD HousE.-The Lexing. ton, Ky., correspondent of tihe Louisville Courier, gives the following account of a ball in the mad house in the former city: I went out about half-past 7, P. M. The ball was to begin at 8. [N. B. Tiie lunatics in the Asylum keep much more rational hours than thoso out of it.] I found already thLro sonic two or three doz ,n gentlemen of the city and half as many ladies. Dr. Allen took ime to the large ,dining hall, tihe pro ten ball-room, before tho dancing began. Entering it, I could scarce believe but that somen mistake of lo. calities had been made. There, well clad and seated quietly otn opposite sides of the huge apartment, were somic seventy-five or ono hundred persons, of both sexes, a little talking, but very little, going on, and all awaiting, in )Crfect decorum, the entrance of the music and visitors to begin the even. ing's festivity. Tle males appeared to pay no sort of attention to the females, hardly indeed to be aware of their presence; while the fe. males sat in equal unconsciousness with regrard to the others, all with a listless, ab stracted and melancholy manner, and ;oll alike perfectly tranltil. I observed tmat the ment, more than the wotnen, gave evi dence, by the wild, vacant eye, and object. less nanner, of the departed mind. It is ditlicult, as to many of the females. to believe them lunatics at all.
