VI-NO. 150. ~ -RETuiwEsra WnAX/Tn.--A careful" esfci mate? by tho > New : York. cotter* brokere, otj.ttaf?^b?^ the surplus yield this s?asan ot cot less than 500,W b?i?a:; Eveb 'atv, tbe lbw figur? of fifteen cents per ponnd this represents ap addition to. the national wealth of $30,000,000. The value of the entire crop wall not be . less than $250,000,000. Through the medium of successive crops.like this the South is destined, in a'few years, to recover its old prosperity. ? re-organization of the system of mar? keting crops since tho war enables the planters to receive a much larger share nf tho proceeds* than before. New York and Liverpool h uve grown rich and luxurious from tho commissions charged tho pro? ducer for soiling his cotton. It used to be said that the cemeut between each briok of our up-town palaces was mois? tened with the sweat of tho Southern laborer. No doabt Southern industry did a great deal toward building up tho oities of the North. Tho larger part of the profits on a ponnd of cottou stopped here. This condition of thiug.s has ma? terially changed since tho war. Tho South gets more of tho proceeds of its toil than formerly. The distribution of so large a sum as $250,000,000 over thu South, annually, will soon make its peo? ple rich again. In ton years tho sum will more than equal the present total of our national debt. No doubt as wealth increases and. the peoplo recover the means of working their plantations pro? duction will also incroaso, and at the end of the decade we hnvo noted, tho South will be raising cotton enough to supply tho wants of the whole world at a cheap rate, and with great profit to itself. What it wants now is political quiet, immigration from Europe, and oheap fertilizers for tho older States. Fortunately all three are promised. Tho discovery of vast beds of a phosphate manure along tho banks of tho South Carolina rivers seems almost providen? tial, in view of the worn condition of the cotton lands in tho Atlantic belt. [New York Neus. While playing poker in Now Orleans, Mr. O'Niel got four aces aud a king, and bet a hundred dollars, aud becanso Mr. Smith "called" him and showed live aces, the former gentleman carved him with a knife. 'Most all the gamblers attended the funeral, and by their presence showed that they approved of having nine aces in a pack of cards. Tho reputation of tho Bitters as a spe? cific for dyspepsia, liver complaint, constipa? tion and nervous debility, has in some mea? sure thrown into tho shado its merits as a preventive and euro of other ailments, but all who have ever taken it, either as a protection against or a remedy for malarious fevers, will admit that it surpasses in efficiency all tho so-called specilics, including quinine, usually prescribed for those maladies, while it is at thesamo timo ontirely harmless and dec!(bid ly palatable._Sept 2 1?
