TO ADVERTISERS. Tjhe proprietors of THE NKWS and The Cou? rier find lt indispensable to the accurate and prompt management of their business, and for the protectloa ot advertisers, that the practice of sending advertisements from one newspaper office to the other be discontinued. They, therefore, give notice that no advertise? ments received at the one office will, ia any case, be sent to the other. At the same time they beg leave to request advertisers to hand In their favors at as early aa hour as possible, in order to facilitate their proper arrange? ment. Why? Earth, thou art perfect and fair; Life, thou art ea nest and sweet; Soul, thou art rightfully heir; Is not thy rapture com pie'e? Why, from the manifold Joys That hie to the morning of oay, From sorrows that strengthen and save, Tnrn'st thoo, expectant, awayr 1 stand io the fresh morning lands ; Dew stars in thegra-s at my reet : Buds and white bio<>m m my hands, About me sweet nong pulses beac, From the far depths of the sky A glory ls rising for me, A royal and roseate dawn Tinting the hills and the sea. Tooth with Its gladne-s ls here, Time with lu treasures untold, Toll with Its promise and cheer, Love that will never grow cold, Yet ont of this sweetuess and warmth, I fade, and I follow afar ?voice that la vague as a dream, light that ls faint as a star. Mystery waveth her wand Over the knowledge 1 crave, And the shadow that stayeth ber hand Boverath over a grave. THE KIDNAPPER HENDRICKS. The court, upon this ? evidence, required the prisoner to give bond i in the sum ot two thousand Ave huudred (lol- < lars for bis appearance at the Superior Omrr. \ The prisoner thea passed ont of the room to ' secure bondsmen, when he was arrested by a 1 deputy sheriff on a ben o h warrant Irom the ! The new County of Aiken is destined to be the scene of hot political conflict this fallas the election for county and legislative officers approaches. At present, however, lhere is no excitement, excepting about the position of State senator. Among those spoken of are Arnim, creator ot the county; Henry Spar nick, editor of the Aiken Tribune; Captain Allen, a Conservative, and John Wooley, late treasurer of EdgenVld County, now mayor of Edgefleld Courthouse. There are other aspi? rants, but their chances are so plight that lt is needless to mention their names. Arnim claims the Blace as a right which none should dare dispute; but he will have hard work in making bis claim good. It ls underwood that Mr. Sparnlck ls willing to withdraw in favor ot' any one who will secure bis election as clerk of court, or to some other good office. In anticipation of some good crumbs that may j fall trom the polli leal table, quite a number of disappointed office-seekers trom other quart? ers have settled in Aiken. Among them Messrs. Jones and Brayton, the former dis? trict Judge under Bullock, and the latter clerk of Interior court of Augusta uuder Radical rule. THE WEATHER AND THE CROPS. Plckrns. Wheat ls prom? ising'; yet we bear that In som? parts of the county the rust has already made Its appear? ance, and If lt becomes general this early in the season we may expect a short crop. Oats, without rain very soon, will be a complete failure." Fairfield. The Winnsboro' News says: "We learn from friends from the southern and south? western portions of our county that their neighborhoods were visited on Wednesday afternoon and night by a severe rain Btorm, accompanied with considerable hail.
