The colonel ac? companies the exhibition with aa interesting and humorous lecture, embodying his experi? ence in these strange lands and places, and will also sing the beautiful ballad of Kate Kearney. The prices of admission are rea? sonable, and one hundred valuable presents will be awarded each night. GRAND IRISH FESTIVAL.-One week from to? day will be given at the Sch ut zen platz a grand festival under the auspices of the Irish Rifle Club of this cit7. The parade bids fair to be the largest and one of the most enthusiastic among the citizens of Charleston since the war, and the amuse? ments bave been arranged with a view to bringing out all of those traits of manly skill and pluck which should adorn the young men to whom Charleston looks lor her stay and support In many a year to come. The hosts opon this occasion have outdone even Irish hospitality Itself, and eleven more clubs will participate ia the enjoymeats of the day. EXPORTING PHOSPHATES.-The British bark Henrietta cleared at the Customhouse, on Saturday, with 900 tons of phosphates and 345 bags of cotton seed, consigned to London, by Messrs. Wagner, Huger & Co. CRUMBS.-The children of the Unitarian Church had a picnic on Saturday, at Mount Pleasant. ! Firemen and boys were as plenty as black? berries along the streets OB Saturday. R. C.-At a meeting held at Hiber? nian Hall, last Friday evening, the Irish Vol? as teer Rifle Club was presented by Director D. A. J. Sullivan, on behalf of Mr. T. P. Forreston, with a handsome lava tobacco box, and by J Messrs. Goldsmith & Bon with a fine set of | sergeant's swords. Sullivan. _ DAMAGE BY LIGHTNING.-The city was visit? ed last Saturday afternoon with a brisk shower, accompanied with vivid flashes of lightning and. violent thunder. The sloop James L. Rrandt, which was coming down Cooper River, was struck by the lightning, the mast wa' shattered and the occupants of the vessel, two young men named Hamlin and McDowell, were considerably stunned, although neither or them sustained serious injuries. At about eleven o'clock at night there was another thunder shower, during which a bouse on the eastern side of the city was struck by ilghf-1 nlng and the chimney knocked down. "?TAKE WARNING BT HER."-About ten o'clock Saturday night, Mrs. M. C. Altman, residing In the upper part ot the city, got out of her house and into a serious row on the street, by interfering with a passer by. She was arrested and taken to the Guard-house and her husband sent for. The latter came, and upon Anding out bow things stood, coolly told the police to keep her there, as she was Insane. Mrs. A. became highly excited at thia, and went on In a way which only con. Armed the allegations of the husband. She was seen locked up to be out of harm's way, ami Mr. A. left the scene of action for a peacelul home. HARD ON THE MOLE.-On last Wednesday a young man riding upon a mule bad Just time enough to reach his father's place, about three miles from Wlnnsboro', whither he had been on business, when it began to rain heavily. Stripping the saddle and bridle from the mule, he Jumped into the piazza of the house oat o? the rain, and let the animal go. The latter walked off a few yards, and was about to enter the door of the stable, when a dash of j lightning came and it lell dead la Its tracks. Tne young man was metaphorically thunder? struck, but the mule v. as literally so, and has gone the way of all flesh. CURTAILING FUN.-On Saturday afternoon an Immense excitement was created on Meet- j lng street, near the Mills House, by the sudden appearance of an unfortunate cur racing down the street with aa empty lobster can tied to hts narrative. The frightened animal, in Its efforts to leave the trundling torture behind, dashed into Inglis's fashionable hair-dressing saloon, causing the occupants to vacate the premises in all the blooming glories of luther and champoo, &c. It was soon found, how? ever, that the dog was not mad, and having been freed ot the appendage the anim il went Its way, leaving the occupants ol the saloon to laugh over their sudden discomfiture. WHITSUNDAY OB PENTECOST.-Yesterday WBB observed In the Roman Catholic, Protestant Episcooal and Lutheran churches as Whitsun? day, commemorative of the descent of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. Whit? sunday occurs tea days after the Ascension, aud derives its name Irom the fact that on this day, in the ancient church, the catechumens, who were thea baptized, as well as those who had been baptized at Easter, appeared In white garments. Pentecost was one of the three great festivals of the Jews, on which every male was obliged to appear before the Lord at the tabernacle and afterwards in the temple. The modera Jews celebra te lt dur? ing two days, which they keep like those of the Passover._ MAN KILLED ON THE RAILROAD.-About eleven o'clock on Saturday night, a white man was killed by the up train on the wilmington and Manchester Rallrsad, one mlle above Flor? ence. The men on the train, as they passed up, saw that some one was ran over, and hacked down to the place. They found the body of a white man, who had evidently been run over, with one leg and arm cat off and the body otherwise fearfully mutilated. The blood upon the body was hard and clotted, and did not Aow as from a person who had Just been killed. Near by was lying the body of a colored man whom tbey took to be dead and raised upon a plank lo take back to Florenoe. As they raised bim he came to his Benses suddenly and said he was all right. He stated that the white man and he had acci? dentally fallen asleep on the road while walt? ing for the train. He had been In a sitting posture, and was only knocked aside and Btunned. The body of h's companion was taken back to Florence where an Inquest was held yesterday upon it. CONFIRMATION.--Yesterday afternoon the Right Rev. Bishop Lynch administered the rite of confirmation to eighty-one. persons in St. Patrick's Church. Of these five were adults. STEALING TOOLS-About two o'clock yes? terday morning Isaac Pontoux, a colored boy, was arrested on the street with a large lot of carpenters' tools lu his possession. The pris? oner was charged by a colored man with hav? ing stolen the same, and was locked up for examination. The tools may be seen at the upper Guardhouse. SKIRMISH ON THE SHELL-ROAD.-Yesterday afternoon, about six o'clock, two colored men I had a plUhed battle with their fists on the shell-road, opposite tho Old Magazine. The smaller one, finding himself getting the worst of it, drew a kniie and gave his more power? ful antagonist a slash across the lett hip. The big one uow swore at the top of his voice that he was murdered, audJ tearing a long board from the lenee, began to belabor the Iii tte one over his head and shoulders. The latter, how? ever, stumbled across a large stone, which he caught up to throw. Hlg big antagonist saw what was coming, and, seeing that the small man intended to leave no stone unturned to win, took to his heels in a style which defied pursuit. The crowd which had gathered cheered the li .tie man, who strutted around for some time, in a high state of excitement and elation. _ ? THE NEW YORK VEGETABLE MARKET.-The Dally Bulletin of Saturday, the 18th Instant, says: Old potatoes rule dull, but without further change.
